I have all those symptoms as well as acute asthma now due to 8 yrs of mold. My family also doesn't understand and I found no help in the medical field. I have had luck with a kinesiologist. I am VERY SLOWLY improving except it doesn't feel like it right now as I am detoxing.

If I am around mold too long it affects my lungs as well as horrible sinus and ear pain and after a while feel so disoriented that I cant put two words together. Thank GOD you are moving.

God Bless

Dear Suffering in NC.

After living there for five years it seems that in December you found mold and if I read

correctly your symtoms started at that time.

We know that NC is in the heavy mold belt...and mold will show up more. What I am not

hearing is that mold was found any other time in that five years. It just does not "suddenly"

make its pressence known.

Sounds like maybe a leak in the roof or a time without air conditioning or that some item was

water damaged .. i/e bought at a yard sale or ? Once the spores get in...they grow rapidly.

Each of us who are affected by mold find that it has made us react differently according

to our other exposures... chemical body contents.

"The invisible Illness" is frequently hard to diagnose...likely because they don't know what to

look for!!!

Many of us have spent all our savings and are in debt/broke trying to get help.

The hope is that we can find it in a safe detox system. MD's do not provide this usually.

The Practice of Naturopathic is helpful to us. Less expensive and not intrusive.

Acquaint your friends and relatives with this problem and its symtoms. I was surprised to learn

that many of my relatives have experienced problems...tho not severe as yet.

Caution!!! you may need to discard those dressers!!!! And other items! Check all items before

you move! Hard as it may be ...the worst is to lose all of your furnishings etc.

Glad you will move soon...be sure the next place is mold free!

Get yourself a good HEPA air filter unit....for your bedroom.

With all that mold ...please do check all your furnishings....!

God Be With YOU!!!

I just found this board when I was searching for information on toxic mold. I have been severely sick for over a month in a half now. I am a pretty healthy person except for hearing loss in my left ear. I have had my bouts with vertigo since the loss of my hearing. Well, on Dec. 1st when I had my first episode of dizziness and collapsed onto my living room floor I figure it was due to my equalibrium being off. My usual episodes of vertigo last no more than two hours at the most. My realization that something was seriously wrong with me began on Dec. 5th when I was still dizzy and disoriented. I also had another episode where I lost my balance and completely collapsed. I immediately went to my ear, nose, and throat Dr. who did a hearing test and told me I have lost all my hearing in my left ear. He was alarmed by this and the fact that I was passing out. I was sent for an MRI. Since Dec. 5th, I have had more blood tests than I can count, an MRI, and a cat scan. I have seen countless Drs. and still do not have a diagnosis. I have been taking Sinus headache medicine like it is candy, it is the only thing that eases the headache that is constant and doesn't go away. I still to this day am dizzy, disoriented, and have a constant ringing in my left ear. I don't have any idea of what it is like to feel normal anymore. My head feels like it is submerged under water. I recently discovered that I have a serious mold problem in my bathroom and when I pulled my dresser out found a whole bunch more. My husband painted our kids room not even three months ago and when we pulled out their dresser there was also mold present. I have asked all the Dr's I have seen if these symptoms I have are due to mold exposure and I receive the same answers, "NO, you would be experiencing respiratory problems, not problems concerning balance and sinus." I have tried to get the housing authority, code enforcement and even my local EPA to come out and look at my problem and to test it to see if it is toxic mold. I still have not been able to get anyone to come out.Thankfully I will be moving out of this house in less than two weeks. But my fear is will this sick feeling every go away? I have been in this house for 5 years and I wonder if I have exposed myself to the mold for to long and the effects are not reversible. If anyone has any insight or could share a similar experience please do. I feel like I am the only one. No one in my family or friends seem to understand what is happening to me. I sometimes wonder if they think I am making it all up.Suffering in NC. Most of us have learned the hard way that we cannot take our stuff

with us when we move or the illness simply will not go away.

I put all my possessions in storage.

Once I got to a point where I felt OK, I would try to get them out

only to find that just a few objects would start me back down into

feeling like crap.

I'd have to put them right back in storage.

After five years of storage, the stuff " died down " and now I can

handle all of my things without any problems.

So I agree with people who say that it might not be a good idea to

bring stuff with you when you move.

But I also say " Don't throw it away " .

You might just get your stuff back someday.

I didn't just find the problem one day. I had a constant mold and

mildew problem in my bathroom on my ceiling and I thought it was

because of the moisture. So I would clean it with a bleach and water

mixture. Then we painted with a mildew resistant paint. Well, my

bedroom has never been rearranged just because this house I live in

is so small. Well, when I moved some small bins that I stored misc.

things in that is when I discovered just how bad the situation was.

After talking to several people I began to correlate my illness with

the possibility of being exposed to the mold. See I live in a really

old house that didn't have central heat and air until a year after I

moved in. So, from what I have heard the house was an automatic

breeder for mold.

I have looked over my furniture (dressers) and have not noticed

anything physically on it, so how do I go about finding out whether

or not it is imbedded in the furniture.

As far as the medical bills I am realizing just how expensive this

problem is going to be. In just a month and a half I have already

ran up over 5,000.00 in bills and I still have not been billed for my

MRI. The bad thing is I have no insurance I am still in college. So

I have a feeling not only will I be paying student loans for the rest

of my life but I will be paying medical bills too.

My landlord is being very cooperative with us and is more than happy

to give me my full security back so I have a feeling he is worried I

am going to sue him. As soon as I am able to find someone to come

test the mold and it comes back as toxic black mold. I probably will

sue him. Just for the simple fact that I asked him to lay plastic

under the house to stop the moisture three years ago and he failed to

do so. He just now laid plastic when I gave him my 30 day notice. I

felt like saying, " A little too late, buddy. "

I would just like to thank all of you for responding to me.

Dear Bekki,

We freely offer our advice and hope you find a good mold tester.

Wish we had a simple tester to use such as the gas Co uses for gas and

carbon monixide.... How nice it would be to "sniff" our clothes and all else

before we remove it.

But till we do....listen to advice from those on this group! They have been there!!!

God be with You!

I had to start over new with everything. Check the bottom of your dressers. I found mold on the inside and legs. PLEASE wear a 3M mask before you go "sniffing". Sniffing sends me into asthma. Also Bryce is right. Alternative medicine, to me, I think is the key to getting better. Im a single mom with a child in college. I got sick at work and their fix was to have me lose my job.

God Bless

There is a mold specialist in North Carolina. I don't know his name. Perhaps someone on this list could share it.

a,

You may be thinking of Dr. Lieberman in S.C.From what I hear and

understand he is one of the best in the field. I have spoken to

several people that have gone to him and they are very pleased. The

people in the office are very nice and understanding, my personal

experience. If I had found Dr. Lieberman in the beginning of this

nightmare I wouldn't have wasted my money on anybody else.

Yes, I know Lieberman, but he is not the one my friend went to. It was someone in NC. I will have to email her and find out.
