Hi KC,

I have done a pubmed search (across medical databases), but not being a doctor myself, it is easy to jump to conclusions that aren't borne out professionally. It looks to me like both fungal and bacterial infections are possible thru and in catheters. There's a lot of stuff in there concerning both conditions. There are recommendations for treating the catheters prior to their use with certain antibiotics for bacterial infections. I have seen recommendations for treating the catheters with certain bacteria to prevent fungal infections. A lot of the info is experimental so your best bet is to have your doctor decide what to do.

Here is a link so that you can look for yourself. But it won't make too much sense without a medical background.
