Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm sure you have had this question many, many times. But I have a hot nodule that causes moderate to severe hyperthyroidism. I'm a 29 year old female. Graves was ruled out. I've been on Tapazole and beta blockers for 2 and a half years. The meds have controlled my levels somewhat, but I've had to adjust them constantly. Sometimes I go hypo, sometimes, I stay hyper, and have only managed to be euthyroid for a few months. I was just on 15mg of tapazole and now would have to go on 20, which I've been told is a lot. I've seen 4 different endocrinologists, and they've all recommended I get the radioactive iodine treatment. And I've been uncomfortable with the prospect every since I was diagnosed. It seems like I am a good candidate for the procedure however, since my entire thyroid is asleep because my nodule is so overactive. So if I did the radioactive iodine, it would probably only destroy the nodule. I've been told that I have only a 40% chance of becoming hypo eventually. If I had Graves, I would almost definitely be hypo. My question is if anybody knows of anyone who has CURED themselves of hyperthyroidism due to a toxic nodule with alternative treatment. Right now, it seems like the only way I can cure myself of hyperT is if I shrink my nodules. I've read about herbal remedies and such, but I want to know if anybody KNOWS someone who actually did it. If I find someone who actually has done this, I might forego the RAI. If I haven't I think I'll go ahead with it. If anyone knows someone who has shrunk their nodule(s), please let me know! I am meeting with my endo tomorrow and need to tell her once and for all if I'm going to get this treatment. Thanks!
