Guest guest
Ok, quick summary. I was diagnosed back in 2002. Been on and off of antithyroids (both PTU and tap) In December 2005, I finally decided to get RAI against my better judgement, or so I thought. Anywho, in August 2006, it was found that I STILL had hyperthoidism. My doctor wanted me to repeat the RAI and I refused. Towards the end of 2006, I lost my health coverage and so I had my last visit with my endo at that time. He gave me a prescription with re-fills good for the whole year for 2007. I told my endo that I wanted to conceive in 2007, so he put me on a small dose of PTU. I believe it was 50mg a day. Again, since I had no insurance, I was not able to check my blood work practically the whole year (2007). I didn't conceive because the relationship fell through. blah, blah. Fast forward to this past Monday, I finally paid for a blood test out of pocket and found the following results: TSH: 1.860 T4: 7.6 T3 uptake: 26 Free thyroxine index: 2 According to the lab sheet, all of these values are within normal range. Keep in mind I haven't taken the PTU at all since Thanksgiving and even before then my compliance was shaky. I did however gain a whopping 30lbs this past year. I'm wondering if the hyperthyroidism has finally resolved itself or if my bloodwork is reflecting the therapeutic effect of the medication taken back in November. Is that possible?
