Guest guest
THANK YOU!!!!! YOUR AMAZING!!! Got the results back last week of a full blood screening done in April this year which was full of abnormalities!!! No follow through was done, just to give you an idea of what we are dealing with in this country!!! You posted me a while back to check on hisfatty acids... this is what came back in the report... I dont know if you can make heads or tails of this...if not would you be able to recomend a specialist in your country that I may be able to connect with via e-mail ( I am hoping to bring over next year) but dont want to wait to long!!! anyway these were the results... Plasma very long chain fatty acids: C22 - 3.89 ( 10 - 51) C24 - 6.24 (8.5 - 35.7) C26 - 0.316 ( 0.11 - 0.62) The neurologist even commented " J may have a metabolic disorder - abnormal lipid studies, low very long chain fatty acids with abnormal ratio, low vit E and low platlets 73,000 (180 - 440)( the platlets have been consistantly low for over a year but no-one has explained how or why or what can be done to correct it) so what do I do now??? What can I as a parent do to treat this??? I dont know if any of this makes any sence to you but this is what else came back abnormal... Blood gases - Base Excess -3.0 (-2.0 - 1.0) Plasma lactate 2.4 (0.7 - 1.8) vit E 4.9 (>6.0) hypocholesterolaemia thrombocytopenia His EEG and MRI can back normal AGAIN!!! hope you can help Best regards Janine [ ] help needed in south africa I am posting from South Africa where we do not have a specialized doctor for autism and Epilepsy(believe it or not!) and I have yet to find a doctor ever the slightest interested in anything alternative!!! we are seeing a pediatric neurologist next week and I need some advice beforehand, so am hoping that you, the experts, may be able to help. we have been down the anti-convulsant route before (granted a long time ago) epilum did nothing to control the fits and tegratol almost killed him. , now almost three years has been off drugs for almost two years but in the last6 months his fits have become out of control: 1/2/3 during hislunchtime sleep and between 2/5 at night, these last for a minute and seem as if he is gagging, he also has what we call "shocks" anywhere from 1 to 10 a day which are about 10 seconds worth of jerking eye movements ( hope my descriptions are addequite). is also autistic and we have been doing the natural supplements for both conditions, but took him off everything to start from scratch as it was clear something was agreeing with him( autism improved) and something was not (fits increased). the reason i'm writing is this...the neurologist is going to say one thing...ANTICONVULSANT! fair enough, but i want to make an informed decision. So here are my questions... 1.) Is anticonvulsants the only alternative to treat seizures? 2.) We've tried: DMG. GABA, Taurine... are we missing something??? 3.) What are the dangers of anticonvulsants???? is there a safe one 4.) I've heard lots of mention of Depakote???? Anticonvulsant? What makes it different???? 5.) If EEGs are comming back normal, how does it explain fitting??? 6.) is it common to have three or four different types of seizures?? 7.) why always when he is sleeping???? 8.) I've noticed when the fits are bad the autism is good and visa versa...weird?? up untill now my main focus has been the autism, but I need to do the best for him, and that includes getting the fits under control...even if it means going the drug route.... look forward to getting a response from you... you really are a life line regards janine _
