Hi ,

I will not differ with you about the dangers of mold in an RV.

I will about living in one for winter after winter....Those who

live in RV's must learn to ventilate and keep humidity levels

low. Trying to save propane by closing vents will soon result

in moisture buildup. Just two people breathing puts much

into the air that must be vented out. We did well with ours

in temperatures that hit the teens.....we always moved South

in winter. I did a lot of work on my RV's and never found

a bit of mold. I have to assume that we did the right thing in

our ventilating 24/7. The use of vented weather covers on

the vents prevents rain from entering. I learned the hard way

about that in our first rented RV...the vent opened to the sky

and the shower of rain added to the regular shower I was

getting!!!

I intend to go back to RV use...with inovations to vent and

filter more....and to use the A/C to reduce humidity more.

I will add a drain to it so it does not run down the side etc.

Redos of the RV will remove carpets and drapes and replace

with wood floor and "safe" fabrics that breathe well. I also

will replace the propane cooking equipment in favor of

electric. I would rather deal with EME than the chemicals

in propane. An electric heater does well in an RV if it

circulates air. One problem with RV's with a slide out is

leakage around the slide....having a roll out awning helps

a lot. Our only case was when it snowed and backed up

and we saw water come in....quickly took measures to stop

the leak and remove the snow. So a lot is proper preparation

for RV living. Its not for everyone! One needs to be very

"handy"!

Respect is needed for the size and necessity of learning how

to live well in an RV. Too many want to live without doing

the needed adjustments and daily chores. Its a lot less cubic

feet and air quality becomes wild without venting well.

Imagine going from a normal home of 2000 square feet...

(14,000 cubic feet down to 240 square feet and (1600 cubic

feet).....one can see why a change and the learning how is

needed.

Just wanted you to know that not all RV's are moldy!!! Just

those that are neglected...improperly used!!!

The risk is higher because the user is not properly instructed!!

I have seen regular homes like that....neglected and mold forms

in places where it was easy to remove..before it got real bad!!

Or water leaks that were not fixed for months/years of dripping!

So landlords or owners....RV'ers or what ever...all need to take

some responsibility to check for mold and do something to

keep it from forming!

Dark and damp where air does not circulate....favorite haunts

for mold!!!! Move the air and remove the humidity....and life

is so much better!!!!

If you want a fascinating education on construction lending itself to mold growth, visit an RV repair shop.I toured an RV yard full of recreational vehicles in various states of repair after collision. Though they looked fairly new and no visible indication of mold growth was apparent on interior walls, the insulation, backing of the panelling and wood frames were loaded with mold. This includes recent model RV's. In fact some of the newest ones were the worst. This is consistent with "mold hits" I've felt in many RV's. I've visited RV people with inexplicable health problems and gotten slammed in their rigs. Most were already too ill to even think about changing their living circumstances and since their poor health left them unable to work, barely able to move and relatives were generally unsympathetic, It leaves them almost zero options for recovery. After seeing the propensity for mold growth in recreational vehicles, I caution any mold sensitive people about the danger of trying to spend a winter in an RV.-FAIR USE NOTICE:This site contains copyrighted material the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner. This is a bit off topic but...

I have been getting sick staying in motels lately, especially on our cheap budget. Does anyone know if there is a reasonable company to rent an RV from for vacations?

RV rentals...use the search i/e WWW.google.com

and write in RV Rental....look for those in your area

I would reccomend going to your local RV places to

check what they have and personally enter those you

might rent to see if they are OK for you..

Cleaning chemicals are sometimes strong in used rentals.

RV America has offices all over.

Be sure you check out Good Sam Club and qualify for

discounts at camp sites. $12 well spent. 1-800-293-5177

Plus a free night!!!
