Lee,

Just update your virus scan and run a full virus scan. That should

take care of it. Right now, there are a lot of viruses out there so

you picked it up from something you opened that had an attachment.

This list doesn't allow e mail attachments to protect the members

from these viruses so everyone who received the message in their

lists of messages is safe but please be careful about opening

attachments unless you know that your virus protection is up to date.

Ellen, it was probably a virus attempt, with no actual virus attached. Might

have been spam by someone who joined to send spam, but I would guess it was

a harmless attempt at sending a virus, from the machine of someone who

doesn't know he or she is infected. Many viruses are written to send email

without the machine owner's knowledge or participation. The email contains

an attachment which does something on your machine you don't want it to.

Quite some time ago, disabled this list's ability to relay

attachments. That action specifically keeps the list from spreading viruses.

So that email was harmless.

Hope this helps.

Hope all you Windows users are running antivirus software, and keep up with

your security updates. I run a Mac, so I am not vulnerable to viruses, but I

update my security patches every week.

I think groups is having problems at the moment. This message is

spurious and I just tried to subscribe someone manually and the message

didn't get through.

I liked it better when we had our own server...

Chris.
