RE: special accomodations

It depends on your situation. I asked for special accomodations in the

form of supplemental filtration of air entering my workplace. That worked

great for most of the workday. However, severe allergy problems still arose

whem attending meetings in other rooms, or simply walking down the hall to

the restroom. Until your management truly believes and understands the real

nature of your problem, you would probably do better to look for a job

elsewhere. Most managers consider SBS psychosomatic until it happens to

them.

If however, a management team member believes you have a real problem,

suggest he read the www.niosh.gov web site and study the publication " Indoor

Air Quality- a Guide for Building Owners and Facility Managers " , a free

downloadable book. Also suggest the thorough cleaning and disinfection of

the ventilation system, a subject somewhat covered in the book. Recommend a

slow release chlorine disinfectant be used in the HVAC system. Following

these NIOSH recommendations thoroughly will probably allow you to continue

your current employment, and prevent others from developing the same

problems.

Subject: Re: allergy meds

Hello, I am also new to group as well and I am in the same predicament. I

have been experiencing allergic reactions but the allergy meds have not

worked for me and I would rather not mask the symptoms. I got my allergist

to write me a letter but I don't think that had much weight so I am going to

try to get my doctor to write me a letter as well. I just have been trying

to live with it. It's been going on for a long time but it's worst during

the cold months of the year(November through February). If it gets any worse

I may have to go on disability. It's just now worth sacrificing my health.

Just wondering, what kind of accommodations can be provided to help the

situation? I think allowing more fresh air in building would really help but

I don't think that's going to happen.
