Dear Pam,

We have been in touch with Beverly continuously throughout the week

offering to help. Not only moral support, but financially in

replacing some personal belongs (clothes, furniture, etc.) She is

having a very difficult time right now trying to get to see a

physician, not only to help herself but to help her children. I have

been good friends with Beverly now for about 4 years and this is very

difficult to handle, just like most of these type cases would be. As

I am sure you already know, Beverly is a member of MoldRelief and has

previously checked out MoldAcrossAmerica (along with many of us)and

to tell you the truth is not very impressed on how that organization

works. But the emotional support from all victims is appreciated.

Thank you for your concerns and offer.

Sincerely,

Dear Ruth & Bryce,

I wish she did live in our area. I would have had a safe place for

her and her family to stay and I'm sure they could all use a big hug

right now. They live in Indiana. As far as sending items for them or

their home I would hold off right now since they are on the move.

Once the family settles one of us will post and address so things can

be sent.

I would like to say that I am very proud of being a part of the

sickbuilding support group with the responses that I have received

and I can't thank you all enough. Your prayers and selfless acts of

kindness are heart warming.

Thank you.

I sent to Dr. Lipsey the name of a dr here in Vegas, who is my MCS dr and

would be able to see her in APril.

Also, I have 2 hotels that are familiar with MCS visitors and can try to

alleviate a lot of the garbage in the rooms at other hotels.

KC, I'm sorry to hear about Beverly's " Hitting the Wall " .

We could see it coming two years ago when you and Beverly contacted

me right after Dr D and I had to bail out of another bad place and

took refuge out in the desert while Dr D recovered.

That was another summer from Hell trying to get back on top of the

power curve. Dr D described to Beverly how she kept trying to

survive in a place that was in excess of the threshold of tolerance

and I kept warning her that she was going to " Hit the Wall " and it

was better to bail out sooner while you can still walk out.

Unfortunately, everybody I know keeps trying to figure out some way

to stay functional even thought they are clearly losing ground and

says " But I cannot leave " until it becomes clear that the alternative

is unsupportable and no other choice is left.

Dr. D and I are both doing well as long as we take great care to stay

on top of the power curve of exposure. We've talked to so many " Mold

Doctors " who are still prescribing vitamins and bad advice that we

suspect that very few people will have any kind of substantial

recovery by following these pointless protocols.

When I talked to Dr Craner in 1998 he told me " You already know about

avoidance and that is the only thing we know of that really helps so

I don't see any use in making an appointment with me. "

I'm waiting for some doctor to come up with a detox therapy that

proves itself by results, but until people start describing how some

particular therapy restored their life, I think it would be better to

put ones time and money into avoidance and quit wasting it on

vitamins that never helped anybody and " cleaning " items that you can

perceive for yourself that remain contaminated after expensive

remediation.

I hope Beverly can get to a safe place.

,

This place that she was in, and it has only been for the last couple

of years, maybe different than the one that you are thinking about.

As far as I know apartment that she is in now was clean until they

used some type of chemical in the apartment right next to her that

was vacant. Her son reacted to it first with vomiting, diarrhea,

seizures and high fever. Then it hit her daughter and Beverly a day

later. So this exposure is chemical related and also possibly mold,

since the vacant apartment had been closed up for several weeks.

Since this exposure they all have been highly sensitized to many

odors and react that much quicker.

Things are not going to change until correct diagnosing and treatment

become available in every doctors office and hospitals. When this

happens, I think many forms of treatment will change including

medications for all different ailments.

Don't get me started. lol

The chemical sensitivity aftermath was bad!

Dr D and my experience was that after the exposure that tipped us

into hyperreactivity, moving did us little good because no place

seemed " safe " .

So I dragged Dr D out to the woods because just being in town was too

much. She's thinking of writing a book about our approach and calling

it " A season at Wolf Creek " . But the doctors don't believe a word of

this. We never found any that we could talk to.

Even the most prominent allergist/immunologist in town fought with

her and said everything she described was impossible.

So I despair at finding a doctor who knows what to do about this and

has any effective treatment to offer.

Just getting out to the woods and making sure not to bring any mold

spores along with us did more than any doctors therapy that I'm aware

of. It seems crazy that forgetting about the chemical exposures and

just concentrating on mold avoidance would get rid of the

sensitivities but that's the only thing that seemed to work for us.

They are returning to Indiana today after receiving the start of medical treatment by Dr. Boyles, Centerville, OH. They must start again with new clothing and all household goods, as these were contaminated two weeks ago by carpet cleaning that was not ventilated, in the duplex next door. Mold Relief, I understand, is available for those who wish to make donations. write elisa@... for details. The medical treatment is not covered by their insurance and I am hoping they are able to receive donations for this. It is literally life and death for this family due to repeated mold exposures, despite best efforts.

I agree that complete avoidance of chemicals and mold is necessary to let the body settle down and recover, as much as it can. In my case, since the triggers were at work, I stayed home, despite any thoughts to continue working (lots of feelings to continue would hit me, still do), and set up my house to have as few chemicals, perfumes, and of course, no mold problems. I have to continually check for the smallest growth of mold, leaks, and be on patrol for chemicals that other family members forget about and bring in. Also, during my worst months, I bought surgical masks and wore one (or two stapled together) when I was in the house and around even mild cleaning chemicals (watered down windex, etc.) or dust, or if my sinuses or lungs were hyperreactive that day or week. It was also worn through flu season in public, at all times, because my doctor thought that I might react to the flu shot, and I sure didn't want the flu. Also, the chemicals in public were lessened by that mask. I certainly got attention I didn't want, but my health became more important. I stayed home, mostly, too, in the safe, protected (chemical and mold free) environment I created for myself there. I did that for two to three months. I also had to use elimination diets (elimination of all known allergens from food diet) and added them back in very slowly. The combination of all of the above led to my improvement, though my lungs are damaged and I know that my brain is also, it showed up in testing. But I do the best I can and I am determined to never be in mold again or in a noxious chemical environment. However, I do understand that, despite best efforts, it can happen. The key is not to remain in it, for any reason.

My doctor wanted to know what I was doing - I told him - he said he'd share that with other mold patients.

The doctor who wanted to know what I had done to improve is one of 16 in Southern CA that I have seen for this, due to multiple organ involvement, etc. I know what you mean about some of them, in fact, most of them.

I also can highly recommend Dr. Kaye Kilburn, of USC Keck School of Medicine, Lab for Environmental Sciences, for diagnosis and recommendations. His number is 626-457-4201. He is located in Pasadena and has set up a laboratory and testing area in a home office. He tests, one on one, usually, for 4-5 hours, then consults, writes about a 7 page report. The diagnosis is extremely helpful in order to determine what is going wrong from mold, and if it is from mold. He is a national mold expert and researcher, with many published articles on the subject, and professor of medicine at the USC Keck School of Medicine. He charges about $1500.00 that was well worth it for me, and my insurance company, Aetna, reimbursed me for half of that, several months later, thankfully. For that kind of extensive testing and personal attention from a seasoned professional who is a rare expert in the area, I was highly satisfied. I then took the diagnosis to my physicians, who understood the problem, far more, after seeing his report.

Your doctor actually wanted to know what you were doing?

That's incredible.

I contacted hundreds of doctors and travelled to CFS support groups

and NOBODY wanted to know what I was doing.

They argued my every point and said " Don't try to apply your

situation to anyone else. We're all different " .

I've never understood what they thought to gain by not considering

the mycotoxin connection, but of course, that's their choice.

As I've pointed out many times, I'm just stunned that prominent CFS

and MCS researchers could display no interest.

Especially Dr since he got to witness my recovery.

B and family are back in their home town and trying to stabilize, despite ONE MONTH of seeking doctors to help and suffering a severe toxic reaction to mold and chemicals in their former home. It has been very hard and very frightening, the symptoms are painful, very serious, and alarming. A special bank account has been set up for donations in their home town, as they have had to travel out of state to seek help, several times, and have been living in hotels when they can find one that isn't too moldy or full of chemicals. They will have an appointment in the next month with a doctor who has a good track record and I just hope that B and family are able to hang on and not have permanent damage. The moderator of this group has the address for the bank, if friends need to know it. If enough was collected, B could go to be detoxed in TX, where there is a clinic for that.

What is so frightening about this situation is that NO MEDICAL PERSONNEL in the three states they went to, and searched around in, could figure out how to connect B and family with a toxicologist or doctor who understood anything about the severe reactions they were having. That demonstrates such ignorance and apathy on the part of the doctors.

The other frightening fact is that many of the hospitals had such a preponderance of chemicals in them and one even seemed to have mold in the HVAC, that it made them ill to go seek help. Like people washing the floor with noxious floor cleaner in the ER, right next to B. There should be a place for chemically intolerant people to go, in each region of the country, where a safe place is established with procedures for detox. And the hospitals always turned them away after a short stay in the ER, except for one overnight. There seemed to be no one who could recognize that more help and diagnostic work was needed than that.

Anyway, it would help if friends continue to pray and send a bit of help for them. They are still without a home and still seeking medical care.
