"Breast augmentations are the number one cosmetic procedure for college and graduate students at Dr. Greenberg's office." http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104 & STORY=/www/story/12-18-2002/0001860429 & EDATE= It's Winter Recess and Students are Heading to Their Plastic Surgeons WOODBURY, N.Y., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Fort Lauderdale move over! From nose jobs to breast enhancements, many students are spending this holiday season at home -- recovering from cosmetic surgery. Dr. T. Greenberg's Premier Center for Plastic Surgery is booked with high school, college and graduate students whose presents are an improved appearance. "Not so long ago, younger people kept a low profile about plastic surgery," notes Dr. Greenberg, "I have seen a tremendous, rewarding change. Students seem to talk freely about their desires. Most parents also understand and are supportive of the need to fix an extra-long nose, acne scarring, and over- or underdeveloped breasts." Nose reshaping is the most commonly performed plastic surgery for those under 18-years-old. A simple nose job can help a high school student avoid painful feelings of insecurity. "For about the same price as a week in Fort Lauderdale, I will give my daughter a gift that will last a lifetime," says Mandy D., Plainview, NY. Dr. Greenberg is scheduled to perform rhinoplasty on her 16-year-old daughter the day after Christmas. "Successful plastic surgery can reverse the social withdrawal that often accompanies teens who feel they look 'different'," Greenberg states. "During the malleable teenage years, appearance is an emotional issue. Self-image and acceptance impact the balance between enjoyment and stress. Other adolescents can be cruel. Certain body features are very difficult to deal with and can shape one's interactions for a lifetime." Determining the right age is a complex issue. "The student should want the procedure," says Dr. Greenberg, "not just the parents. We also need to ensure the young adult's expectations are clearly understood and realistic." According to Dr. Greenberg, plastic surgery may be performed on the nose when it reaches adult size, about age 15 or 16 in girls and a year later in boys. Other popular procedures are breast reduction or enhancement. "The wrong breast size can create a tremendous psychological burden for young women," says Greenberg. "Although waiting may prolong the awkwardness, the best results are achieved when the breasts are fully mature, at around 18-years- old." Breast augmentations are the number one cosmetic procedure for college and graduate students at Dr. Greenberg's office.
