Subject: Is your time worth a penny? Is the website for free mammograms worth your time?

Dear Friends,

About once a month, I receive an email begging me to click onto a website to give free mammograms to poor women. Does the e-mail sound too good to be true? It depends on how much your time is worth.

According to the NIH, mammograms cost about $100-150 (although they are free for women on Medicare and there are also programs that provide mammograms free for poor women.) The website that I have been urged to click on has a section called "Daily Results" which tells you the number of clicks each day and the number of mammograms that buys. From that, it looks like around 40,000 clicks equals one mammogram.

That means that your time to visit the site is worth less than half a cent. In fact, you need to visit 3 or 4 times to donate a total of one penny.

It's great that the money can add up to provide free mammograms, but we thought you might want to know how this works, and decide for yourself what to do. Breast cancer is a terrible disease, and there are many organizations fighting to help women get the medical care they need. We urge you to find one and support them.

Feel free to share this with a friend if you'd like to. (The original message I received is below my signature).

Best wishes,

Here's the most recent solicitation I received: The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people toclick on it daily to meet their quota of donating at least one freemammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go totheir site and click on "Fund Free Mammograms" for free (pink window in themiddle). (There is nothing to sign up for and no cost to you.) Thecorporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate amammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here's the website - Pass it along to all your friends!! http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/
