Hi ,

I read Dr. Lee's books on the progesterone cream and estrogen dominance--I know our hormonal issues can get really messed up. I tried progesterone cream a couple years ago when I thought I had a problem with estrogen dominance, but for some reason I got a period right in the middle of my cycle while on it. It was really strange! I asked Dr Kolb about it and she told me to cut out the progesterone cream as it brought on "break through bleeding" and maybe I didn't need it. It is so confusing, I don't really know what to think about it.

On to the thyroid stuff. I am taking Biothroid, which is identical to Armour. It has T3 and T4 in it, and it was the hormone replacement drug that my original diagnosing doctor put me on. (He is a homeopath). He also put me on Cytomel, but when I went to an endocrinologist instead, he said to get off the Cytomel because it was too strong for me. My endo has been testing and watching my blood results closely, and last time I saw him he suggested I go on Synthroid to avoid those ups and downs in my feeling of well being. He said the major problem with natural thyroid is that it doesn't stay in the system long, and there is also something about conversion of T4 to T3 or whatever, so you get these ups and downs.....bottom line was that I refused to go on the synthetic stuff and opted instead to just continue taking the natural thyroid twice a day instead of once a day. I would start to feel worse the further away I got from my last dosing. So, yes, I did continue to have hypothyroid signs on the natural thyroid meds, since it didn't stay in the bloodstream at a steady rate. I am technically hyperthyroid right now taking it twice a day, which he doesn't particularly like, but has agreed that I should take the extra dose in order to feel good. He also told me to try to take 1 and a half grains instead of the full 2.

I have both Armour and Biothroid actually. I got a supply of Armour from Mexico, and that is my back up supply. I buy the Biothroid at my doctors office. Biothroid I can't split because it is a capsule. Armour I can split into halves, and what I should really be doing is taking half a tab of Armour at night instead of a whole grain. Maybe that will keep me from being in the hyper ranges. But all in all, I feel great on 2 grains a day.

Except for when I am eating like a pig! My family has been in town for the past month, and I have eaten at more buffets than I care to admit to. I never want to eat out again! BLAH!!!!!!!!!!! I have to say, Las Vegas has some great food, but you really can have too much of a good thing! I am going to be doing some major cleaning out when my son leaves town! Brain fog is back, darn it!

Patty, I am so fortunate to have Dr Mercola as my doc. I love him, and his wonderul staff. Im going in next month, as he would like to do more testing as I dont seem to be doing well on my natural thyroid. (or before Levoxyl) I am still losing hair, low body temp, and water retention, weight problems, not sweating, and brittle nails. Interestingly, estrogen dominance can inhibit thyroid uptake, and usage, so I will have my progesterone and estrogen levels checked, to see if this could be the problem. I am currently reading the book,"Premenomouse-what your Doc may not tell you - Balancing your hormones from 30-50" It is realy interesting! I am wondering do any of the other girls have high levels of estrogen in comparison to their levels of progesterone? Or noone has ever had them checked? I guess, we are intaking too many estrogens in our hair products, meats, dairy, and other synthetic items. And this causes you to have a type of estoge n dominance with low levels of progesterone, making you at an increases suspeptablitly to cancers, auto immmnue disorders (esp Hashimotos) weight gain, esp aroung waist hips and thighs, fatigue, and alot of other symptoms.(ME) and Estrogen and thyroid levels go hand in hand. They work very closely. I wonder if Dr Kolb could comment, if she knew of any evidence that implants can interphere with these hormonal levels?Or are any types of estrogens used in the maunfacturing of the breast implants or shells?

Also Patty ,what thyroid med are you on? A mixture of t3, t4 synthetc, or natural? Did you try Armour? I know Dr Mercola, and Dr Lowe discuss that some women do not tolerate natural.... does that mean it just doesnt work, and they continue to exhibit hypo symptoms.Thought Id see if you had any og these problems, seeing that I have to wait another month to see Dr Mercola.

Thanks Patty for your kind reply. I think that is why it is so important to be tested first before going on Progesterone cream, as Dr Mercola talks about the dangers of the usage of such a powerful hormone on a sysytem that doesnt need it. Alot of women take it without regards to if she actually needs. You realy listen to your body, and realy in tune to to get off of it so quickly. Good thing for Dr Kolb, and her last minute advise that is so valuable. Ya know? Thanks for filling me in. I am also in the hyper range (esp t3) but definitly dont feel that way at all !I cant wait to get this all straightened out, so I can be on my way. I am on 2 and a half grains twice a day.

Hi Martha,

Yes, I was only using it on the days that Dr. Lee recommended. I can't remember off hand how many days, but I do know it was only the last half of the cycle. Maybe I'll need it at some point in the future but right now, I am just going to take DHEA and pregnenolone.

Thanks Martha!

Hi Patty,

Are/Were you using the natural progesterone cream 2-weeks, then skipping 2 weeks, each month? If you still have your uterus, which I had to have surgically removed at age-30, it does not matter. However, if you have not been "neutared", as I was, then you should only use it 2-weeks-on, and 2-weeks-off! Per our OB/GYN Medical Director!

Blessings,

mm
