Sent: Saturday, April 12, 2003 10:07 AM Subject: Saline Breast Implant Sufferer So glad you wrote, Pam. I am forwarding your message to a group of women who know too well exactly what you are experiencing. Please know you are not alone. I am currently in Central America ... where breast implants are widely being marketed. So is the cover-up around the dangers. I wanted to share this with you and the other women … I have spent a lot of wonderful time this week -- in fact have taken several 3 and 4 miles jungle hikes, with a woman who had saline implants for over 10 years. She got them out 7 years ago after experiencing horrific lupus, RA, hair loss, etc. etc. etc. She had had a breast reduction and “evening out” her disproportionate breasts, and the PS decided she'd do better with a "perky" look, as well as even. She was not even fully aware that he had put 2 implants in … of different sizes until after she became sick and asked for her medical records. Her hair is again vibrant and full … she can walk 5 miles a day now … after thinking she might die just a handful of years ago. She believes that getting away from all medications as best as you can … and eating a clean and healthy diet with lots of live and fresh foods, and as much gentle exercise as possible has truly helped her. The more she moves … the more she can move … and the less her pain becomes. One note about your situation … I am not sure why they would even want to take a mammogram at this point … or if it could benefit anything. It could possibly rupture your implant … and the ability to detect tumours with implants in place is lessened substantially … Please keep in touch … all the best in your upcoming decisions. Ilena http://www.BreastImplantAwareness.org PS: I never had implants myself … what you read was probably the story of another sister in our group. I’m so glad you related with it and reached out to us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello Ilena. Your story made me cry, for I am experiencing the same autoimmune symptoms as you did. I am now 37 years old. I had my saline implant surgery in September 1994. In June of 1995, I started suffering with TMJ. The bones in my body are perfect, it is the tendons, muscles and ligaments that ache. I've been on Vicodin for over a year now, not being able to live a day without it. I have all the symptoms of fybromyalgia and my blood work says I have the Ebstien-Barr Virus. I finally found a doctor that is understanding, but he is not aggressive enough for me. I had a sonogram of my breast implants done last week and I was supposed to find out the results of that test today. Unfortunately, the lab didn't send the report to the doctor in time for my visit. He did however, have all the results of my MRI, MRA, neck X-ray and lower back X-ray, which all showed normal. He upped the dose of my sleeping medication and told me he would order a mammogram, which didn't happen, and t hat he would see me back in 2 weeks. This past weekend, I received 2nd hand information on a nurse who had similar symptoms as mine, who had her breast implants removed. Once she did, she was better. It makes me so scared, that I want these things out of me right away! I'm tired of being in pain. I'm not sure, however, how to take charge with my current doctor. He is an infectious disease doctor. Should I call him and demand a mammogram now? Should I call the lab to get my results, now? I'm scared that if my implants are fungicide, and they leak or leaking, that I won't be able to recover. Have any advice? Also, should I call the plastic surgeon that put my implants in to take them out? I would appreciate any help you could give me. Sincerely, Pam Metairie, Louisiana. Got2bme0831@...
