Subject: Senate Hearing MONDAY, and postcard campaign update

Texas Campaign for Women's Health Update*** Please forward this update widely to any individuals or email lists that would be interested ***In this message:1) Senate Finance hears TDH Budget MONDAY, Feb 24, 8 am, not Tuesday2) Medicaid Waiver Postcard Campaign still underway!***************************************1) The Senate Finance Committee hearing for the TDH budget has been moved to MONDAY, February 24:Date: 02/24/2003 Time: 08:00 AM Room: E1.036 - Finance Com. Rm.If you can come by the hearing to sign in with your support for funding for women's health care (family planning), please do. Your input does make a difference! If you can provide written testimony, but can't come by on Monday, please send it to me by email or fax this weekend: 512-448-3373 or Lesley_Ramsey@...Again, the better we can educate the members about the breadth of services offered by family planning clinics‹and give it a human face‹the better they will be able to hear our request to preserve the funding for them.****************************************2) Medicaid Waiver Postcard Campaign still underway! On February 5, we delivered more than 750 postcards to the governor¹s office, but the effort continues! We are still collecting postcards urging Governor to support the Medicaid Waiver for Women¹s Health. The waiver would expand eligibility for preventive women¹s health care services and family planning, as well as treatment for breast and cervical cancer to thousands of women in Texas. Rep. Diane Delisi has filed a concurrent resolution (HCR 56), which has a hearing on Tuesday, Feb 25, urging the Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services to authorize any section 1115 demonstration waivers. We hope this means that the legislature is truly looking for the most cost-effective ways to provide important healthcare while drawing down the most federal money we can. The Waiver for Women¹s Health has a 90-10 federal match--the best!We encourage all of you to collect and send us as many postcards to us as you can! The next delivery will coincide with International Women¹s Day, March 8--It¹s a Saturday, so we¹ll probably make our delivery the following Monday. To request postcards be sent to you, contact Lesley at Lramsey@..., or call 512-448-4857. Or download the postcard at the TCWH Website: http://www.whfpt.org/TCWH/index.htmlSend your postcards to us at PO Box 3868, Austin TX 78764.***************************This update is provided by the Texas Campaign for Women's Health.
