Some of you have heard that the National Organization for Women (NOW) held a very small scientific meeting on breast implants in Washington yesterday.

I wanted to let you know that the meeting went well and the presentations were extremely interesting. I was pleased to have the opportunity to talk briefly about the flaws in the epidemiological studies in the Institute of Medicine report: my main points were that the samples were too small, the women had implants for too short a time, and the illnesses were not evaluated by a medical exam but instead usually relied on medical records.
