Bigger is better as Hong Kong women bust out

January 20 2003 at 06:10AM

Hong Kong - The size of breast implants in Hong Kong has doubled in the past 30 years as fashion trends appear to favour biggest breasts, a news report said on Monday. The average size of breast implants has swelled from between 120 and 150 cubic centimetres per breast in the 1960s and 1970s to between 200 and 250 cubic centimetres today.Plastic surgeons wrote on the subject in the latest edition of the Hong Kong Medical Diary and said that changing fashions and faith in technology made women favour bigger breasts."Fashion nowadays is bolder and more liberal, with see-through and low-cut tops. Bigger is better in that respect, and that draws more women to have implant surgery," said cosmetic surgeon Otto Au.Implant surgery for both breasts costs between $5 000 and $9 000 (R44 000 and R80 000) in Hong Kong. - Sapa-DPA
