Subject: Response to AMA head's remarks on Breast Implants

Dr. Coble, head of the American Medical Association’s remarks regarding breast implants sounded like sound bites from oft quoted Dow Chemical and Dow Corning press releases.

To imply that women removed their breast implants at the whim of plaintiffs’ attorneys, literally adds insult to injury.

Far from being exonerated by “science” as he claims, recent FDA studies clearly illustrate that the majority of breast implants rupture over time. Other studies have linked the painful and debilitating fibromyalgia with broken implants as well as deaths from brain and lung cancer, even in women who have never smoked.

With such blatant distortion of the science surrounding breast implants, it is no wonder the AMA is best described as no more than a trade union to protect doctors, patients (and facts) be damned.

EXCERPT:

A few years ago there was a nationwide scare among women who feared that silicone breast implants could leak and cause future health problems.

Although there was no medical evidence of such an outcome, thousands of women had procedures to remove their implants and numerous lawsuits were filed."Because of our litigious system, science didn’t matter," Dr. Coble said.
