Subject: Lunch seminar on Viagra for Women: Myths and Realities on Friday, May 30: Please RSVP

Viagra for Women and the Myths and Realities of Female Sexual Dysfunction

You're invited to our next Fourth Fridays lunch

on Friday, May 30, 2003

Viagra is one of the most prescribed pills for men in the U.S., and researchers have tried without much success to prove it can help women as well. According to a survery conducted by researchers at the University of Chicago, 43% of women suffer with sexual dysfunction, compared to 31 percent of men. Is this statistic accurate? Millions of dollars are being spent by pharmaceutical companies to find a magic pill to solve this problem, and billions more are expected to be spent by women when the pills are available.

If women aren't enjoying sex, is blood flow the problem? Or might it have something to do with their relationships?

Are pharmaceutical companies medicalizing social problems so that they can sell the solution? Who decides whether sexual dysfunction is a medical problem or an interpersonal problem?

Come and hear what the research shows and what the experts have to share on this issue.

When: Friday, May 30, 12:15-1:30 pm

CPR's Fourth Fridays lunch series is free. Just tell us you're coming and we'll save you a sandwich and make sure you have a place to sit. Our goal is to provide useful information and interesting discussions among leaders from across the spectrum of life in the Washington, DC area, in an informal setting.

The National Center for Policy Research (CPR) for Women & Families' mission is to identify scientific research and medical information that will improve the quality of life for women and families. CPR explains this information to the public, policy makers, and the press. We provide the best information available to everyone who needs it. We don't take money from companies that make the products that we analyze, and we provide our information for free to whoever wants it. On the fourth Friday of every month (except for holiday weekends), CPR hosts an informal lunch on a topic that provides "news you can use."

Thanks to for providing the refreshments

and conference room
