You asked if BPES was linked with female infertility.

Yes, it is. But some women with BPES can have children.

You can have three problems of infertility linked with BPES :

- Premature ovarian failure (POF) : You don & #8217;t have your menses anylonger,

before the age of 40 and sometimes before 30, or before 18. You don & #8217;t have

so many follicles as a woman without POF,

- Ovarian resistance (the follicles don & #8217;t react even if you inject lots of

hormons, or they react only a little : not all of them grow, they grow slower),

- And the oocyts are of bad quality.

There are two types of BPES : type one is related with a severe female

infertility, and type 2 sometimes with a female infertility (but not so severe).

A gene was isolated in 2001 : FOXL2, on the chromosom 3 (3q23 or near to this

position).

I have a mutation of this gene. A doctor told me he didn & #8217;t know which type

I have, another one told me I have type 1. In both cases, the facts are I have

an ovarian resistance, my oocyts are of bad quality, and I may have POF since

1990 (but I still have my menses, sometimes regularly, sometimes not).

I hope that you and your sister don & #8217;t have this part of BPES. You should

contact a specialized doctor in genetics and a gyneacologist. You have to make

genetic analysis of your blood, and to make specific exams on your blood (rate

of FSH, inhibine B, AMH). I can give you the name, address and phone number of

geneticians in France, if you want me to.

That & #8217;s what I understood. I am not a doctor.
