Guest guest
DonAt first I thought you were going to describe a tree like what we have all along the coast. But, very little here would only be 3-4 ft diameter. Those would actually be baby trees. LOL Soon, all the way from Alberta right through the province, we won't have any pine trees left. There is and has been an epidemic of a pine beetle that are killing the trees. Then, it becomes a major fire danger in the summer. I'm not sure how close to the coast the beetle is; but, I suspect it's not far.Hey, both Debbie and Steve may know what I'm talking about. Or it just hasn't made it to their coast either.Gloria Hi Gloria Yeah he hired a helicopter to lift out the deadfall trees [which were huge]. Then he trucked and railroaded them down to Arkansas. Each tree was maybe 3-4 foot in diameter and 50-100 feet long. Each tree cost a fortune. I suspect that for the cost of maybe 5 trees, I could have bought myself a real nice small home. People with lots of money dont seem to have a lot of sence....seems to me. Plus, especially if he was trying to pick deadfall trees. One time when hubby and I went out to Calgary, Alberta, his brother wanted to show us a log house he was working on. So, he gave us the tour and when we got upstairs, I had to go and look twice, Then I asked him what kind of idiot would build such a beautiful home and the master bedroom overlooked the prairie. On the other side was a gorgeous view of the Rocky Mountains. To me that was just wrong!! Hi Donna Good ideas are far and few between. If I were me.......errrr.......[that sounds funny]......anyways, thats what I would do. I would have a 2 room house - a BIG kitchen and a bathroom, all on one level. I mean, I dont know about at your house, but everyone I know ends up in the kitchen hanging out anyways. A livingroom is just a dirt collector, and a bedroom Ive never really had. In the house I live in now, I sleep in one corner of the livingroom with my computer. The other 3 corners are - TV/stereo, piano/amps, and a couple of easy chairs for visitors. I have a nice sized kitchen, a VERY tiny bathroom, and the bedroom is really just a large closet that I store my junk in. Throw in my front porch, and Im set. Down in Arkansas, where I am from, all my friends have built their homes with one big room. Off of that is a bathroom. We call that kind of construction - 'Hillbilly Heaven'. LOL :-) I have a millionare friend who moved there from California, and he built his house out by the lake. Its 3 floors tall. Its real nice, but you have to climb 2 sets of stairs to get to the bedrooms. Its a giant log cabin, made with deadfall trees from Canada, at a cost of one million dollars. Who ever heard of such a thing - a million dollar log cabin? His livingroom is big enough to put 4 of my houses in, and the kitchen holds a 12 foot table its so big. Shucks, 50 people could live there and never crowd each other. I wonder what him and his wife are going to do when they get old? They are almost 70 now. dang love don in ks --- H
Guest guest
You know, I have found that people with money tend to lose touch with the real world. Take for instance the whack job that owns this house.. I have known her for 49 years... we moved in across the street from her family when we were both 3. My dad had his own business and was making bucks... her dad was struggling to keep them in the neighborhood. She grew up thinking she was rich but in all reality her dad was working 3 jobs to try to keep up with the " 'es " In this case WE were the es. She went to college, became a Respiratory Therapist and got married to a guy that she informed needed to maintain her lifestyle... the lifestyle that her father had worked so hard to pretend to have. The guy took a job in construction.. something he knew nothing about. His first day on the job he fell off the building he was working on. Fell off the 3rd story and somehow lived. He wound up deaf and blind in one eye. Plus the fact that he was in the hospital for close to a year. There was a lawsuit.. she got over a million dollars... her. He got more. She divorced him because she could not bear to be married to someone who wasn't " normal " . Her words not mine. She took her million bucks and went to dental school. Got remarried, had 3 kids and is now living in a million dollar home... yep, worth a million even with the recession. She has another house in Michigan on a lake.. when she bought it she was so excited because it was an old cottage and she was going to keep it that way and furnish it with old furniture... Yeah.. that happened. Within a year she tore the house down and built a 2 million dollar home there.. And by the way.. this is a log cabin too... unbelievable. The last time I was in her house here.. she was showing me the basement that she had remodeled... Actually finished. She spent more on finishing that basement than I spent buying my home. When I had to move this past year, she told me I could help her out by renting this house from her because it had been on the market for months and they had no one interested in it. She had it listed for $190,900. She paid $189,900. for it 6 years prior. She had bought this house for her father. Right now, she thinks she can list it for 189,900. still... the house on the corner is for sale and has been for the past 5 months... nobody has even looked at it and it's beautiful and twice the size of this one.. and on the market for $178,000. This one is probably worth $159,900. at best. She has no clue. Nor does she have any clue what it's like to live from one paycheck to another and not have a savings account. When we were having financial issues right after I got thru with treatment.. when I was forced to sell my house, her answer was to just open up a fifty thousand dollar line of credit. She said she gets offers for those credit lines all the time... well no shit. She is worth MILLIONS. Joe Average does not get offers in the mail for a fifty thousand dollar line of credit.. and if he does, it's a mistake. It just makes me crazy that some people have so much money and not a financial trouble in the world but they are oblivious to what is going on around them... Or is it just me? Guest guest
TeriI truly think that you are right when it comes to many people. Especially those that came from nothing and suddenly had a whole lot of money. In fact, they are the worst! A long time ago, when I was in hairdressing with the ex, there was one client that came in every time she came up from California to partake in the hot springs. Anyway, she came from money - boy did she come from money! I remember finding out, at one point, that the ring on her finger was real and not costume jewellery. That diamond was HUGE. However, she was just common ordinary folk. She did not talk about her money. She did not look down her nose at anyone that came into the shop when she was there. She was a real sweetheart. Then another time, one of the clients was expecting company; but, for the life of her, she couldn't remember the woman that had called and wanted to come for the visit. Anyway, that gal came to the shop as well. Only she was totally opposite to the wealthy one. She just wanted all the bumpkins around the two little towns, to think that she had money. Well, after she left, the original client came in to apologize for the woman's behaviour. But, she had finally figured out who she was - she was the maid from next door to where she was brought up.My husband was raised in particular poverty. His folks had 12 kids before they were done. Also, he was sent out to work at the age of 14, because the folks needed the money. What I noticed the most from any of them, is that they are extremely afraid that someone is putting them down and that they bristle for no reason. I got branded badly, because some thought that I talked down to them. NEVER My folks might have had a bit more; but, then they didn't have 12 kids either. I do not have an issue with anyone at all, unless they try to make it an issue. The husband and some of the sisters did just that. It was never true; but, it was a great thing to use in any argument. For me, I couldn't care less what someone has or doesn't have! The person that is inside that skin is the only important thing. Who cares who owns the house?? One thing for sure, I don't care if the house is worth $190,000 or a million. Really, it's the bank that owns the house. Every application that asks if you own or rent, should add one more box. Yet, you would never know the difference from the way she was raised. Her and worked hard for what they have. That was why, when it all came to an end and she wouldn't move again - this house is worth that money. Guest guest
Funny thing is, I was born with a damn platinum spoon in my mouth. I grew up with money. Once my parents got divorced and my dad died... no more money. My dad worked his ass off for the money we had. 7 days a week that man worked. And he was as down to earth as they come. My mother, on the other hand.. she was born and raised in " the back of the yards " which is the area right behind the stockyards. Where they used to slaughter all the animals. That area was cheap to live in and it stunk. Once she married my dad and into money, jeez that woman could put on the airs. Made me crazy. As an adult, I've been comfortable financially until my bout with hep c. It broke us. What my friend doesn't realize is that she is just a diagnosis away from total catastrophe. Guest guest
Now there it is, hey?? Just a diagnosis away! I used to wonder if I had a truly compassionate heart or not. It bothered me. Well, ever since the 1st treatment, I know that I would stand by anyone that is suffering and especially with a chronic condition. In fact, just as I started typing this, my friend who had his liver surgery a month before mine, just phoned. I hadn't seen him around where I usually would see him. So, I called and left two messages. Now, I'm at ease cause I know he's pretty OK and perhaps just facing the same thing that I am right now.Gloria Funny thing is, I was born with a damn platinum spoon in my mouth. I grew up with money.
