Hi Gang,

I have a question that someone may be able to answer. I was told for the first 3 shots to take an aleve prior to the shot and one in the morning but ONLY for 3 weeks. I am wondering why?

Thanks,

Donna Re: [ ] Trudy - Donna - Fatigue

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your encouragement as well. What is kind of funny now, when I look back over the last couple years, I kept telling my doctor and my family and friends that I don't feel right. But, there was "nothing" wrong with me so the doctor put me on happy pills to help me get over whatever was making my mind think i was sick. Well, the joke is on him now! Glad I know what is making me tired all the time and miserable. All I do it work, eat and sleep because that's all I have energy to do.

So, the moral of my story is I am a happy women to know I am not cracking up. This will virus will be behind me in 6 month. Fortunately, I have great insurance, an awesome husband of 30 years, grown up kids, 6 gr.kids, true friends and a boss that is wonderful. I've always been grateful but especially now that I need all these people to help me through this along with all of you folks too.

Thanks so much,

Donna

Donna,I have never heard that.  I was told to take 2 regular strength Tylenol if the fever was bad and to make sure I never took more than 6 in any 24 hour period.  Never heard anything about Aleve.  Not sure why they would tell you to only take it for the first 3 weeks.. you're going to need something when the fever kicks up.  I do know Aleve is longer acting but it is also a different type of drug.  It's an NSAID drug.  It's not the first choice for a fever reducer either...  Now there is a limit of 3 Aleve pills in a 24 hour period...  could you maybe have mixed up where the " 3 " came into play?  People tend to freak out about the use of Tylenol during treatment or for anyone with any liver disease but if you take them correctly and you only take 2 regular strength and limit yourself to 6 or less in a 24 hour period you should be okay.  Tylenol does help with the fever and side effects.

Teri,It is written down on the instructions and the nurse stressed for only the first 3 shots. She said aleve works for 12 on the fever so you don't need as much. The first 3 have been so easy on me that I hate changing the routine but I am a rule follower and don't want to mess up. I will try it without and if I need one I will take one. From my neck up I'm sweating all the time and the rest of me feels normal or cold. Especially my feet. Need to wear socks to bed and a t shirt. And still get to hot and wake up soaked from my neck up. This happens all week now. Very weird. Maybe its hot flashes? Who knows. Thanks for answering my question. Hot flashes for me tended to radiate..  they covered everywhere and then after about 10 minutes of intense heat I'd get the chills for 15 minutes.. then the cycle would start all over again.  Not sure on the Aleve...  float the nurse a phone call.

Wow, is there ever a whole lot of misinformation out there!!

Personally, I didn't have anything prior to or after a shot.  I would do the shot at about 10:00 on a Friday night, so that I had the weekend.  Sometimes a Saturday wasn't too bad; but, I might pay for it on the Sunday.  Or both days could be bad.  Never knew what would happen from one week to the next. However, our local Hep C nurses advised me that I might be down every weekend and to just start out knowing that.  So, I usually just stayed in my jammies for the whole weekend.

As for any OTC pain meds.  I only took some Acetaminophen, if I needed anything and very seldom did I even take that.  I'll tell you one thing.  I wish that I'd had Teri around when I was doing treatment, even the 2nd time.  WATER, WATER and more WATER.  I learned that just about every time I had a headache, jugging back some water was all I needed.
