Because I do not currently have health insurance, I'm concerned about the costs associated with explantation. God-willing, I will be getting Medicaid soon, but don't know if they will cover anything. Can anyone tell me how much this is costing on average?

thanks,

kim

I see your frustration watching someone take the same road you and so many others have done only to deeply regret it later. God bless you for caring so much. To think "Oh well, I can get them taken out if it doesn't work" is really a sad choice because I think I was sick long ago, and never made the connection until the magic word "lupus" came out of my Dr.'s mouth.

No one knows what the future holds. Right now I'm wondering where in the world I am going to come up with 6-10K to get these out. Who's to say that she will have funds like that at her disposal when .. and who knows when..she becomes ill???

Save money and health and buy a water bra. (my sick attempt at humor)

No i haven't talked to anyone. I have been left to seethe over this for the weekend. Because it happened to be when I made the connection. Friday was when my Dr. patted me on the back and said he wants me to go to a specialist as soon as i get my medicaid regarding the positive lupus bloodwork. I'm not even exactly sure what that is. is that the ANA ? ? My implants, btw, are under the muscle.

I believe mine are textured...but I'm really not sure.. What is the purpose of the texture??? I'm in Florida so Atlanta would be reasonable for me. Mine also are 9 years old. Oh my God, I pray that I get them out and poof, life is peachy. What a lovely story that is isn't it???!!

Kim:

Cost runs from $6,000 in upwards of $10,500 for explant. Depends on what you are having done, i.e., lift, en bloc.....etc.

LOL.......I agree with that.

I think for some people they just don't get it. They actually have to experience it themselves to be able to "get it."

Remember the story of Adam and Eve? Boy, did she ever regret eating that apple!!!!!!!! Each month when I get my period cramps I always think, "Thanks a lot, Eve!" Hee hee

Had I had this website to go to before I was implanted, I would have ran from the plastic surgeon big time!!!

Sorry for the bad news about the cost.

I'm in the same boat as you.

I've still got my implants inside my body. I want Dr. Kolb to remove them. She's wonderful.

Have you spoken to her? If you call her, she'll talk to you directly and for as long as necessary. :-)

The reason why these docs and implant manufacturers haven't done a damn thing to stop implant use and the reason why they don't care about us is because of the money. Think about it: $6,000 to put them in and $6,000 to take them out. Nice, eh?

How about this scenario:

$6,000 to put them in. They are crooked and you need another surgery to adjust them so that's another couple of grand. Then you get capsular contractures real bad so you go in to have those removed....couple of grand there. Then, 2 years later one ruptures so you go back in to have that replaced for yet another couple of grand. THEN you get a disease and you lay out $6,000 to $10,500 to get them out.

CHA-CHING!

I bet everytime a new women gets implanted, the PS's mind must go nuts thinking of all the $$$ they're going to rake in................

I should have been a plastic surgeon!

(just kiddin')

I didn't know this THAT brand-new for you. I'm so sorry. You have hope. Some women in here have tested positive and after explant, their bloodwork clears up ..... poof! All gone!

I'm sure you'll have the same result! :-)

To answer your question, I believe that is the ANA.

My ANA is clear. I don't test for anything yet I have all the horrible symptoms. Some other women in here are the same that way.

I was implanted in Oct. 1993, 9 years ago, with McGhan textured implants under the muscle. Are yours textured, if you know?

You can check out Dr. Kolb at www.plastikos.com

Her website is awesome, chuckfull of info. She supports us! I'll only trust her or Dr. Feng to explant me which means I have to travel. I'm in Calif. Dr. Feng is in Ohio and Dr. Kolb in Atlanta.

A very wonderful story!

I'll add you to my prayers foreverafter, Kim!

I don't know what the purpose is for textured. Maybe Patty knows. I've often wondered about that myself. Some think the textured are worse. Could be, but a lot of women in here became deathly ill just a few months after being implanted with smooth implants.

What are your symptoms? Do you have the same as mine? I listed them today in an earlier post.

Kim,

I think it varies, but for the most part if you are paying out of pocket, you can expect to pay at least $5000, probably more, and hopefully if you get medicaid they will cover it and you can find a doctor willing to use medicaid that will remove them properly. PROPERLY is key here--you must have a total capsulectomy, do not compromise on this.
