Guest guest
Hi everyone Just got home from the GP-doc, and can update my lab results now. These are the best labs I have had for 3 years. Something good is going on with my body, I think. My Viral Load dropped another 200,000 pts, to just over 1 million, down from 1.2 million last Aug 2010. I know that VL doesnt mean a whole lot until time for treatment, but watching it drop sure does give me a morale boost. date...............VL 07-08[DX] = 86,000 09-09 = 551,000 02-10 = 1.900,000 08-10 = 1.200,000 02-11 = 1.000,000 ------------------------------------------ PCR - liver function [genotype 1B] ........................................normal range GLUCOSE.............90...........<70-99> BUN......................11...........<7-18> CREAT..................0.9..........<0.5-1.2> BUN/CREAT..........12.2........<10.0-20.0> SODIUM................141.........<135-145> POTASSIUM..........4.0..........<3.6-5.0> CHLORIDE............105..........<101-111> CO2......................27.5.........<23.0-29.0> CALCIUM..............8.9............<8.5-10.5> ALK PHOS............82............<42-121> AST [sGOT]..........28............<10-42> ALT [sGPT]...........31............<20-65> TTL PROTEIN........6.9...........<6.4-8.2> ALBUMIN..............3.4..Low...<3.5-5.0> GLOBULIN............3.5...........<2.4-3.6> ALB/GLOB............1.0...........<0.9-1.8> TTL BILIRUBIN.......0.4...........<0.2-1.2> ANION GAP..........13.............<8-16> OSMO..................271.2........<270.1-298.0> For the 4th streight lab [2 yrs], my labs have been mostly in the normal range, and this is the best one yet. I asked about getting the IL28B gene test, that shows who will respond well to HCV treatment. They didnt know what this was [because it is very new], and I had to show them articles about it. They said that they will check into it, and get back to me. http://health.dir./group/ /links/008___IL28B_gene_001292899628/ I am getting all my labs done by my GP, so that I can walk into my Gastro's office one day, and hand her all the results, and say - 'its time, lets get the show on the road'. I have a few things to do before I do that though. - Quit smoking cigarettes - Get to where I can ride my bicycle again, and/or walk at least 2 city blocks without dying - Get totally off of sugar type products I figure the healthier and stronger my body is before treatment, the better my chances are of reaching SVR. Hopefully this will be by the end of summer. Then I can say - 'liver biopsy first, then treatment using the new Protease Viral Inhibitors'. love don in ks

Guest guest
Well DonI certainly do not know what all those tests mean. That's Teri. However, I know that I would never have been accepted on treatment with those ALT and AST's.The only way you are going to find out for sure, is to get the biopsy!! They will likely find that you don't have a whole lot of liver damage. Also, when you think about your other health issues, this has to be thought out extremely carefully. If it's apparent that your liver is not going to take you out of this world anytime soon, then it's best not to even think about treating. I don't care that it will be with the protease inhibitor!!You remember when I told everyone about my fall in my little home? You know, the one that I don't honestly know how long I was out cold? Well, of course, it prompted my Dr. to run a series of blood tests on me. They all came back normal. Right in the office, she physically checked a few things. Anyway, what this means is, basically I'm a very healthy person. I certainly was a very healthy person right up until my first tx. Yes, the Fibro was already bothering me; but we wouldn't have figured that out if it was not for tx.The reason that I say all of this? Is that the last tx kicked my butt really good. It was far from any picnic at the park. They are serious about saying flu like symptoms. It's just a matter of how bad the flu-like attacks you. Definitely, your heart will be involved in any decision. We are almost the same age and I came to realize just this last few weeks, that there really isn't any reason for me not to continue to work. After all, I don't have a job that involves any hard labour. Sitting on your butt all day, working on an accounting program is more of a thinking labour. However, Don, you have not been able to work for many years, right? What is going to change if you successfully complete tx?? For me, one of the biggest things that keeps me working?? I can't live on Disability and a little widow's pension.Luv Gloria Hi everyone Just got home from the GP-doc, and can update my lab results now. These are the best labs I have had for 3 years. Guest guest
Don, just my two cents here. Tx does cause heart palpitations and such. Think this thru while you decide.
