Guest guest
Hi Tonni Sorry, I only researched so far, and all I found was that the AFP test is used on preg women. The AFP test is done to: Check the unborn baby of a pregnant woman for brain or spinal problems (called neural tube defects). Such defects occur in about 2 out of every 1,000 pregnancies.2 The chance of a neural tube defect in a baby is not related to the mother's age. Most women whose babies have neural tube defects have no family history of these problems. This test is done between the 15th and 22nd weeks of pregnancy. Check the unborn baby of a pregnant woman for Down syndrome. The chance of finding Down syndrome is about 70% when the AFP test is done with the estriol and hCG tests (triple test). The chance of finding Down syndrome increases to about 80% when the hormone inhibin A test is added (quad test).1 Find certain cancers, especially cancer of the testicles, ovaries, or liver. But up to half of the people with liver cancer do not have high AFP levels. Check how well treatment for cancer is working. Check for liver cancer (called hepatoma) in people who have cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis B. http://www.webmd.com/baby/alpha-fetoprotein-afp-in-blood?page=2 http://search./search?ei=utf-8 & fr=slv8-tyc7 & p=afp%20test & type= Im not quite sure how this fits in with your stats. The doctor may have been looking for liver cancer markers. Gloria had liver cancer - maybe she can shed some light on this topic for me. love don in ks now my pain seems a bit different...mine is not topical but inner bone from the butt down and from the elbows down...my hands and feet are always in pain and the more you use tem the more they curl up and don't want to work and then it feels like the muscles and boes are also trying to curl up and almost fear they will break if used... Guest guest
Hi Tonni Well it does say that - 'up to half of the people with liver cancer do not have high AFP levels'. Im more concerned about your 'bone pain'. I mean, I have Fibromyalgia, and my joints and muscles hurt, but my bones dont hurt like you describe. I totally understand your concern about this....I would be concerned too. I hope and pray that it is nothing more than the aging process. Let your doctors keep checking you out, and keep after them to do so. They have a million tests, so maybe they can give you an answer one of these days. If I were you, I would also start the SS process ASAP, because it sometimes takes a long time. I think you can apply using Hep C as a reason for your disability. I mean, you did go through HCV TX, so you have the medical records right now. I got mine using a free Legal Aid lawyer. Once you get it [maybe before], you will have Federal backed medical insurance to help. love don in ks now my pain seems a bit different...mine is not topical but inner bone from the butt down and from the elbows down...my hands and feet are always in pain and the more you use tem the more they curl up and don't want to work and then it feels like the muscles and boes are also trying to curl up and almost fear they will break if used... Guest guest
Here is what they are looking for... I highlighted it in orange.. Yes this test is primarily used on pregnant women but it does uncover some other things that are good to find out early. Granted there are other tests that they can use besides this one that are more wide ranging, I'd prefer the bigger test vs this one but they have run this one on me before.
