Guest guest
- I'm probably not a good person to answer, having no personal experience with this myself, but my 15 year old son just had surgery on May 15. He went back to school yesterday, the 19th. He was fine as early as Saturday. He slept quite a bit on Friday. I quizzed him the entire weekend about how he felt and whether he had any of the effects I had read about in other e-mails on this site. He has had no pain, no dizziness and his recovery seems to be going very well. How long I should stay at home before I can go back to office? The longer the better? How long it take to full recovery? Is it necessary to have someone to take care of me after surgery? Can I take care of myself because I live alone? Is it reasonable to take a flight trip before my surgery? Thanks a lot,
Guest guest
Hi , In 2001, I had 2 surgeries within 2 weeks on my left ear. After the first surgery, I was off work for 2 days along with a weekend. After the second surgery, I was off work for an entire week. I have an office job though. It does make a difference what type of work you do and each person's recovery is different. As someone has mentioned, be sure and have food and any other items you might need in the house prior to surgery. I didn't feel like driving for a couple days. Best of luck, Ilonashellytang70 <shellytang70@...> wrote: Hi,Because my surgery is coming soon, I am worried a lot and have a lot of questions. Guest guest
Hi , I doubt that flying before your surgery would be a problem. But as always, run it by your doc. As for recovery, everyone is different, and it depends on just what they end up doing to you, and how dizzy you get and well you handle the anesthesia and meds. I had a my eardrum rebuilt and a mastoidecotmy (rebuilt my mastoid). My c-toma was rather invasive and was through the bone between ear and brain but not into the brain. I was out of work for a week and back at work the next week but should have been half-time. I was a receptionist at the time. I didn't have to have anyone take care of my but it did help to have my husband wash my hair on the weekend before I went back to work. He did a better job keeping the water off the stitches. Guest guest
Hi I may have been at the more extreme end of the recovery process in that I had a complicated ctoma and still had balance difficulties stemming from before the surgery. I don't do a physically demanding job but the doctor signed me off work for three months - though I managed to return after just one. I also live alone and though fairly immobile and lethargic at first, I coped fine. It was useful to have the kind, caring support of a friend who called round occasionally and ran an errand or two. I think most people are ready to return to work after about a week. As suggested, you really have to ask your doctor about flying. A flight could cause difficulty if you have either Eustachian Tube problems and an intact eardrum or if you have a serious balance problem. Good Luck with the surgery Phil
