Guest guest
That "non smoking" in a rental anything here, has been a rule for years!! One time, I found a little house to rent and right off the bat, had to admit to the owners that we were smokers and no, I could not promise not to smoke in the house. Figured, well that one's gone. Instead, they called back and said that we were what they wanted in the house, so if we promised to wash down the walls before we moved out, it would be fine. Well, I've never moved out of a place that I haven't washed the walls down.In fact, now that the mobile that I lost custody of, is empty - it's embarrassing how bad the walls really are. First of all, we moved in just after I finished treatment the first time and I was just learning about the Fibro. So, I had the want; but, not the energy to really do a good cleaning a couple times of the year. Then, I went through the 2nd treatment and the liver cancer there. So, #1 - I am glad that it is a very close niece and her kids that are moving in and #2 - I hired a gal to help get those walls washed down. Made me feel better.Gloria Diane,You know, I signed a one year lease the house I am in... the intention here is to buy. Do you know that after I signed the lease and moved in I saw that there was a clause added where I couldn't smoke in the house. Really? I am paying a lot of money to be in this house and they can tell me I can't smoke in it? WTF? Yes, you can bring an e-cig on a plane and use it freely. The flight attendants are well aware of them, as a matter of fact, they use them too! I'm sure you are beyond terrified about your husband starting treatment.... do me a big favor though.. try not to let him know that... somebody has to keep the appearance of "Everything is going to be just fine..." and it's going to be hard for that person to be him. There is absolutely nothing and everything to be afraid of... how's that for a wishy washy comment! Right now you are afraid of the unknown. He hasn't started yet and until he takes that first shot, you won't know how he's going to react. Some people get thru this with very few side effects if any. Steve, who is a mod on this group, he went thru treatment and worked the entire time. He had some side effects but he wasn't side lined by them. I, on the other hand, was completely side lined. Every person reacts differently. There are people here who have had a really difficult time and some that have had their weeks just change with side effects. Sometimes a few sometimes none sometimes all of them. We never know. Everyone has their own walk with treatment. Even the drug companies will tell you that there is no prediction because everyone has a different experience. Now, for the advice... The best thing you can do to help your husband is to get prepared for this fiasco! First off I want you to keep a positive attitude no matter what when you are around him. If you want to totally freak out, come on here and do it. He very well may be sick and if he's trying to still be the one holding the family together it can be tough. If you need an outlet, which you will.. find a friend that you can talk to.. meet for coffee for a half hour... something. You will need to blow steam off. They say this can be harder on the care giver than on the patient... Not sure how true that is... I know it about killed my husband to watch what I was going thru. He felt pretty helpless. I also know how hard it was on me so... it was probably pretty even difficulty wise but his torment was mental and mine was mental and physical. Enough of that... he's going to need to drink a lot of water to flush the meds thru his system.. The more water he drinks the easier the side effects are. He should be drinking a gallon + of water in addition to what he would normally drink. These meds dehydrate you. You have to replace the fluids in your system. Gatorade works too... as does herbal tea. He may find it difficult to eat... food tastes different. There is also the metal taste that we get in our mouth.. really bad. To get rid of the metal taste try pickles or Junior Mints. Some folks here have put Junior Mints in the freezer and popped one to get rid of the taste. I used dark chocolate. Not a big mint fan. Food... that's a rough one.. whatever he can tolerate, you're going to see he's going to stray towards really bland stuff. AS this stuff happens, just pop on here and we will walk you thru it. Educate yourself now. Read all the booklets the doc gives you with the meds. They tell you what to expect. And they are accurate. As for replying to a post... on the post you want to reply to, from your e-mails, just reply as you would to a normal e-mail... if there is more than one post on the e-mail (sometimes we leave a string of them... ticks some people off) remove all but the one you are responding to (cut and paste, but just cut...) If the subject is changing please change the subject line. It's a lot and we all forget sometimes so just give it a good college try! Hope that answers that question! Let me know if you need anything... I am here and more than willing to help....Hugs,TeriOn Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 9:50 AM, dianedellicarpini <dellcar9@...> wrote: Regarding smoking, it is awful how much they have gone after smokers and most of it is not based on science just pc bull. I think I would also almost pass out if I heard smoking or non smoking, sure would be nice. Also Can you take ecigs on the plane and not get hasseled? Another thing Iam really not quite sure of where to put a post and after reading what happened I sure don't want to insult anyone. Don posted how scared he was of biopsy, I must confess that I am terrified of my husband going into treatment. And Don, my husband had no problem with the biopsy other than a little sorenes at the site.
