Guest guest
Don,Just so ya know... Oxycontin is VERY hard to get... most doctors will not prescribe it because of it's high addiction rates and because it is basically heroin in a pill. Usually it is just given to someone who has had major surgery for a short period of time or someone who has had a serious traumatic event with rough injuries like a car crash or as happened to my brother-in-law, getting shoved down a flight of stairs and breaking a jaw... Even then he had Oxy's for only 5 days. I tried it for 4 months, and it did nothing for me - candy. I was taking 75mg x three times a day [3 pills = 225mg]. My Case Manager also takes it, and she says it works good for her [she is on a 3x higher dose than I was]. But she is also on 3 other kinds of pain meds. So go figure. She is a nice person - but I think that she is caught up in the Yuppie Junkie thing....IE: a Professional 'streight person' becomming addicted to prescription meds. I went back to my GP, and he changed me to Oxycontin 10mg, then upped that to 20mg for my really bad days. I take the Oxy's PRN [as needed], to avoid becomming dependent, and also cut back on liver damage. The Oxy's I can feel helping me, whereas I felt nothing from the Lyrica. I dont get stoned from the Oxy's, but I do feel a tingling in my body, and sometimes have to take a nap. Occasionally they give me a headache, especially if I eat suger products. The only problem I have with the Oxycontin's is that they are time release, so its usually 2+ hours before I start getting concious pain relief. I take one 10mg when I wake up if I hurt bad. 3 hours later I may take a second one if I am still hurting a bunch. Some days I can deal with the pain, so I take none. Now, here is a 'Natural' suggestion for you. I have found experimenting with my diet, that if I stay away from sugar type products, red meats [beef/pork], and fried foods, that I have bunches less body pain. These 3 things also cause me digestive problems, and are not real good for the liver or heart. This has been my personal experiance using Lyrica, and some of what I have learned about my body. love don in ks
