Guest guest
First of all welcome to the list and congratulations on doing so well with Weight Watchers! I only have a couple of pilates videos, my first one was Breakthru Core Conditioning Pilates with York and Dozious which I really like. It is not too hard to do but is also challenging. I also have Voight's Core Power Pilates Abs and back which is another good one. is very good at cueing so you know what to do even if you aren't looking at the TV. I have The Method Precision Yoga by Kries. She is very flexible and I'm no where near her level, but it is a good workout and I feel relaxed afterwards, I really need to modify this workout and I know not to do some of the moves or they bother my neck. I have a friend who enjoys Voight's Yoga Focus also called Yoga Power, it's been released under both names. I might have to get this one. If you can find a Lilias yoga workout she does beginner workouts and would be a good place to start, she used to be on TV. As for Bellydancing I've never tried it, looks like fun though! I've heard that Neena and Veena's workouts are good. Let us know what you decide to get. Keep in mind that all workouts can be modified to suit your level of fitness. You can do the workout without added weights, take out the arm movements, use different leg movements if you don't like jumping, etc. You will get many ideas from all the wonderful people on this list. Here's to a healthy new you! Kerry | Hi, | | I'm new to the group. Guest guest
Hi , I saw Crunch Joy of Yoga in our local thrift store the other day, maybe I should go back and pick it up. Is it a beginner workout? Kerry wrote: I would recommend Crunch Joy Of Yoga or Austin Yoga Essentials. Those are two that I started out with and they are excellent. Welcome to the group. I wanted to ask a few questions1. does anyone have a yoga dvd they recommend? I have never done yoga and am needing one for beginners. michelle has already suggested crunch yoga(the perfect yoga workout has two great yoga workouts for beginners) denise austin is okay but i don/t care for her form. also bryan kest has a 20 min beginner video. http://www.collagevideo.com is also a good place to search for beginner videos as well as catch some short clips. 2. Has anyone on this group done the winsor pilates? Do you like it? How do you think it compares to other pilates videos? winsor is okay, but i much prefer stott pilates or ana caban. both focus on form and breath with more controled movements while winsor pilates is more of a faster paced workout. also karen voight abdominals and back workout is pretty pilates inspired and it works throughly3. Belly dancing dvd's - does anyone have any suggestions about this? I've never done it but have read that it is great exercise. the only one i ihave is from dolphina but i hear neena and veena are much better. you can find their videos at collagevideo.com as well. I know I have a lot of questions - but I am not just new to this group, but also to exercise in general. well i hope we can answer any questions you have or at least point you in the right direction I have lost 30 pounds doing weight watchers - but now I need to start exercising - I have some weight to loose, as well as I want to be overall healthier. CONGRATS!!!!!! not only will you lose weight with exercise but you will make yourself stronger and healthier. kassia All-new - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster. Guest guest
Hi! Welcome! For yoga there are lots of good ones - off the top of my head I'd go with Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss with Suzanne Deason as she shows the postures in a slow and controlled fashion and different modifications are shown using blocks, straps, etc. I would also recommend anything from Body Wisdom Media - I particularly like Yoga Complete for Every Body - the DVD contains several different programs of different lengths and levels from beginner to intermediate. Props are also used and demonstrated well here! I've never done Winsor Pilates but if you're new to Pilates, I'd also recommend Suzanne Deason's Pilates for Weight Loss -again, b/c of the slow/controlled method of teaching and demonstration of modifications. I also like the Crunch workouts by Ellen Barrett and I also like Burnett's Pilates workouts - I'd go with basic or beginner to start with and then move up to intermediate. Moira Stott has some good ones, although many say that she is boring. Since I haven't used mine much, I guess that must be true for me too! LOL! But you will learn proper form from her. I also have to second Voight as an instructor for both Yoga and Pilates. I've never really done bellydancing, so I don't know much. I may have borrowed a tape or two from the library, but nothing clicked with me. Hey, if you have access to a good public library, check to see if they have exercise videos/DVDs, that is a great way to try before you buy plus there are lots of folks on this list who rent exercise DVDs from Netflix and other places. Guest guest
I'll second that recommendation on that Yoga tape. I've used it and it's really good. Guest guest
Welcome to the list, bbsarah! You'll like it here, everyone's very supportive. Congratulations on a loss of 30 lbs so far, and on having a plan for those last few stubborn pounds! I have 'Bellydance' with Veena and Neena Bidasha. There are 4 categories so far: basic moves arms and abs hips, thighs and legs fat burning Each is a 30 min workout with rhythmic music and the soothing voice- over narrator style of instructing the viewer how to do the steps, while Veena & Neena demo. I think it's fun, and light impact. Sometimes when I dread doing more challenging videos I will start with the basic bellydance one, just to perk me up before I do another video. It can also be a stand- alone workout on some days. One of my friends uses a chiffon scarf to make her sessions feel like dress rehearsal for a theater production, she says that's fun for her. Do you like > it? How do you think it compares to other pilates videos? i learned how to do pilates with mari winsor's original set of workouts. i enjoy them very much, although i did branch out to using other instructors eventually. i found that getting instruction from a variety of sources helped me with pilates the most. > 3. Guest guest
Hi Welcome to the Warriors group. There are folks here in all stages of HCV from newly DX'd to cured, or non-responders, and more. I am don in ks, 60, DX'd in 2008, genotype 1B, labs near normal, no treatment yet. The first and only thing I want to address with you is the alcohol issue, because none of the rest matters at this point. - Do you care that you have HCV? - Do you care that the HCV and alcohol mix could likely kill you? Your right - by drinking alcohol with HCV, you are a 'time bomb'. I suggest that you stop ALL alcohol consumption immediately, and never touch another drop. I know your doctor told you the same thing. , this group trys to help people who are willing to help themselves heal. We all fight hard to heal ourselves, and we dont want to watch someone kill themselves. Im sorry to be blunt, but drinking alcohol with HCV is a SERIOUS issue. I personally have watched someone close to me, go from treatable, to dead, with liver cancer in just 2 years from alcohol and drug use. I never want to watch it again. I hope you will reflect on what I have said......seriously. love don in ks From: <bradshawkathryn@...>Subject: [ ] New Date: Sunday, February 13, 2011, 7:46 AM Hello ALL: I have hcv, no symptoms, not being treated or tested (was over 6 months ago), no medical insurance or assistance, from Indiana - just moved to Florida. I do not qualify for clinical trial, still consuming alcohol. I feel like a time-bomb. I would appreciate any comments of encouragement or guidance. Guest guest
Before I was diagnosed, I was actively drinking. It was just about all I did, and I liked it. A lot. One thing I didn’t like was when I stopped being able to digest. I would eat, and it would be fine until about 2.5 hours into it, the time the Liver is supposed to start adding its stuff to the mix. Well, I guess my liver wasn’t working, what with all this drinking and the undiagnosed HepC. Instead of the digestion moving along, the stuff would sour in my stomach and roil and hurt until I vomited it up. I became quite expert at the discreet vomit, like a bulimic. The only thing that seemed to help was more cheap champagne. This went on for, oh, 8 months at least. Until it sort of slowly and gradually resolved itself. I was also menstruating continuously for those 8 months, and not just a little bit, but A LOT. In truth, I was a disgusting mess. But it didn’t really matter as long as I could keep drinking. I was far too interested in drinking to take an active role in resolving these issues. I had no insurance. I had no money, or at least I had no money that was going to be spent on things other than alcohol. I did consult my boyfriend’s son-in-law, who was a doctor, but he was really too queasy to be of much help. He did a blood test and found that my ALTs were very high, but this was early on, say 1989, before such a test would trigger a HepC screen. He suggested I stop drinking. I just laughed; like that was going to happen. I had much further to fall before I stopped. So – I understand about wanting to keep drinking. It’s magical, it’s great stuff, Be Drunken Always, you really have amazing experiences and insights when you drink. You lose long periods of time to the wonder and delight, and don’t have to think of other ways to fill that time. I’m with ya. But, depending on the stage of deterioration of your liver, it could be pretty ugly before it needs to be.
