Hi Diane

I agree with everything Teri told you in her post about your new doc and the new meds/clinical stuff.

You seem to be getting on the right track.

I wont get my labs back for a week from my doc visits last wednesday.

The Imaging Tech said something to me about the left side of my heart not working so good, but I wasnt paying attention so cannot remember.

My heart-doc may possibly tell me next week, in my weekly visit.

I will ask.

Diane, I believe that both Alternative and Conventional medicine each have something to offer us.

Both, if used, could possibly compliment each other.

For example, I have taken vitamins all my life, even tho there is little 'clinical proof' that they do any good.

I have also done Conventional medicine too all my life, and at times, it did not help me.

So in my book, its not about 'which is better', but about 'will something help'.

I use Alternative protocals to try to maintain general good health.

When that fails, [if I get sick], I turn to Conventional medicine to fix me, [if it can].

I am not like a lot of people who swear by one choice or the other.

I figure God created both for a reason, and I like having options.

Right now my heart is an issue, and holding me back from doing Conventional HCV treatment.

My heart-doc told me that I have CHF [congestive heart disease], and that the Interferon in the treatment might kill me.

Seeing that Conventional medicine cannot help me at this time with my HCV, Im trying the Alternative route.

BUT

The Alternative route can not cure me - it can only help maintain my general health - and maybe slow down the HCV damage....[as far as I know].

Thus I am eating a liver friendly diet [mostly], taking some sups [sometimes], trying to exercise [im lazy], trying to sleep well [sleep meds], and trying to avoid pollutants and stress [doing better, but not great].

I still smoke tobacco - gad.

- I dont drink alcohol, or use street drugs, not even pot [which I love].

- I am avoiding red meat, pork, and fried or greasy foods.....eating mostly chicken and fish.

- I am eating a lot more fresh or frozen veggies and fruits.

- I am trying to stay away from canned foods, or things with chemicals I cannot pronounce.

- I try to avoid sugars, salts, spices, preservatives, chemicals, dyes, etc.

- HCV causes digestive issues, so I have found that I am Lactose [dairy], and Gluton Intolerant [refined grains/breads].....I avoid these.

LIVE FOODS is my goal, but I am not a fanatic about it.

It takes time to change ones diet after 60 years of eating - 'whatever'.

But I am constantly improving.

Then on top of the diet things, I do some suppliments.

- Milk Thistle is proven to slow HCV reproduction.

- ALA [alpha lipoic acid] is what Dr Berkson uses on folks.

- Glutathione is produced by the liver, and helps digestion.

- Omega 3 [fish oil] is essential to health.

- Selenium helps the Glutathione work.

- Vitamin D helps the body maintain health.

- Vitamin B complex helps the mind and nervous system.

- I take a multi-vitamin every day [no iron - mens formula].

- Weekly I take one Folic acid and L-Lysine [bones and Herpes].

I take the suppliments one day, and the vitamins the next day, back and forth.

I only take one pill of each, no matter what dose.

This is cheaper than trying to maintain a high dose [because I am poor], and my idea is to just keep these things flowing in my body for good health - not to cure me.

I have noticed a difference in my general health when I stick to the above.

PLUS

Last fall my HCV labs were great, and my viral load had dropped 1/3rd.

These recent labs I want to compare because for the last 6 months I have not taken my suppliments.

I am playing guinea pig on myself. LOL :-)

I have listed all the diet and suppliment stuff in the LINKS section of the group.

Please check it out if you like.

I was wondering if you got any results from your last Drs visit? I do have my husband taking supplements and wondered if you went back on yours. I have never trusted pharma and we have never had to use medications which makes this whole thing just a bit harder. I have very little trust in western medicine. We are same age as you Don.------------------------------------
