Guest guest Posted February 3, 2011 Report Share Posted February 3, 2011 Hi I took your advice and went to my doc appmt even tho I froze today. I wasnt feeling all that good, but I survived. Ive been thinking alot about buying a gas powered electric generator for several years now. All I want it for is to run one electric heater and a light bulb, so I dont freeze should the power quit for any length of time. I dont because I dont have the 1000 dollars or so to get one. And living here, I really dont have any place to keep it. Im afraid it will just get ripped off. A house just got robbed the other day 2 houses up the street from me. I know because the cops came to my door asking questions. Like I really know what is going on outside? LOL :-) They wanted to know my name, and I refused, and said good night. They already have it on my drivers lience. Thanks for the Senior Center link, but if the power goes off - no phone. My little sister suggested investing in a cell phone, but how does that work? I havent got a clue. I used to burn wood with a electric heater back up down in Arkansas, once upon a time. My lungs cant take the smoke now, but it was a good and cheap way to heat my house. Hey, I hope your recovering and feeling better. Take care of yourself because I cant replace you. LOL :-) love don in ks Its like 5 degrees here, and dropping to -4 tonite. Wind chill is -20. Ice or snow outside, cant tell, and lots of wind. Inside my house its cold, and the heater wont quit running. Im trying hard not to be sick, but I dont feel so good. Got mouth sores, and stomach hurts. I want to panic because even under my electric blanket Im cold. I canceled my doc appmt for today. No way Im going out unless I lose power. If I lose power, Im screwed. Everything runs on electric. Got my major weekly doc appmt tomarrow, but dont know if Im going. Got a head-doc appmt thursday. They are calling for snow tornados, Ive never heard of such a thing. Its supposed to be 47 saturday......can I survive until then? I hope you feel better Teri. Trudy, I hope your warm and safe. Actually if you have a cell phone you can completely disconnect your land line and probably even have the same number. I did that with our home phone.. transferred it to a cell number til my contract was up. Worked out great. How often do you experience power outages? Or are you just concerned because of the recent blizzard? We have snow drifts up here that are 6 feet high... it's crazy. I missed most of the storm, sick in bed and feeling crappy but I did hear the blowing. I'm still in bed.. fever, cough, ribs hurt, sore throat and really congested head. I just took some more cold medicine and a Norco.. hoping the codeine will stop the cough and the pain.. Keep your fingers crossed. Freezing freezing here... it's in the single digits with wind chills in the negatives. I am nice and toasty in bed under my down comforter and a second comforter... and there is always Sheba.. she's right here with me so if I get cold, she'll snuggle up with me. Bruce took pics of the snow.. I'll post them in the next few days.. it's an epic storm.
