Abuama,

Knowing the amount of damage to your liver isn't necessary but it is helpful for you to know.  Above all else, the one thing I can tell you is if you are someone who drinks alcohol, you need to stop.  Alcohol on a hep c infected liver is like pouring gasoline on a fire.

The energy loss is par for the course with hep c.  It's an indication that there is damage to your liver.  Once you go thru treatment and have a positive outcome, that will change.

Before treatment, there really isn't much to do to get ready other than get your support system lined up.  Family and friends that will know what you are going thru and that can help you if you need assistance.  For me, that was what got me thru treatment.  I had a great support system in place and they all stepped up when they needed to.

Make sure to have a very good relationship with your doctor and his nurse..   His nurse will get you thru the roughest of times and it's always a plus if you like your doctor.  If you don't like your doctor, change that NOW before you start treatment.

Bring on the questions.. there isn't much we can't answer here.Hugs,Teri

AbuamaI'm going to jump in here.  It is always a very good idea for any of us to eat far healthier.  So, I would listen to them all!!

Can you tell us what level of damage has been done to your liver?? Usually the hepatologist would tell you what stage the damage is at.  That way, you will know whether you want to do treatment or perhaps wait a little while.

Gloria

Hi teri,thanks for  give me courage.nowadays i m waiting for treatment,now i m visiting doctors.

i have one question in my mind that is creating doubt for me.Until now i have visited 5 doctors, three alopaths(physicians) and 2 homeopaths.homeopaths and one one physician said keep great care in eating foods.Lot of things they say not to eat at all.

but 2 physicians including hepatologist said it is not a matter of avoid foods, u take treatment of p interferon and ribavirin and eat each and everything.so should i take treatment from the doctors who r saying not to avoid foods and eat each and every thing? r these doctors sincere?

what your opinion about thisregardsabuama---

AbuamaWell, it's a good thing that you are genotype 3, because it is an easier type that responds well to treatment. Our standard of care here in North America is that, if the liver enzymes (ALT/AST) are in normal ranges, chances are that the Dr. will not recommend treatment. However, if they are in the high range after several blood tests, then the next step would be to have a liver biopsy. That will tell you and the Drs how much damage has been done during the time that you have had Hep C.I agree with you, you have time to investigate and learn about this disease BEFORE treatment. At your age, it would be hard to believe that a great deal of damage has been done yet. You know, my son is going to be 32 in a

couple of weeks. He has always suffered from being tired and not much energy. He does not have Hep C!! I believe that in his case, he's just not so happy with his lifestyle. Once he can get his teeth into something that interests him, he'll exist on very little sleep etc.Gloria
