Guest guest
Don, What town do you live in? Lemme find you a hepatologist!Welcome to the dark side... Gastro's are EVIL! LOL! Hugs,Teri When you are up to your ass in alligators it's hard to remember that your initial objective was to drain the swamp. My liver doc is a Gastro, and now Im wondering how good she is, or will be. has the same Gastro as I do.I dont know if there is a Heptologist anywhere near us. Maybe part of the reason so many folks dont do well on TX is because they all are seeing Gastro,s? Maybe if everyone had a Heptologist, the SVR rates would be higher a percentage point or two. Now this is interesting - Dr is the only other Gastro here in town [my Gastro's partner]. He did a Colonoscopy on me, and took out my Gall Bladder. I had a real problem with post op treatment from him - basically he fired me, because I called his office and insisted on post op care info. I was in pain, and didnt know how to help myself. [2004?] A couple of years before he operated on me, I was hospitalized with West Nile Meningitis [WNM]. I know they ran every test known to man on me to try to save my life, because I was like the 2nd person in the state of Kansas to be infected, and was dying. [2006?] Colonscopy and Gall Bladder op by Dr . [2008] A couple of years after he operated on me, I was DX'd with HCV, and my viral load was 86,000. I have read several reports where Colonscopy clinics infected people with HCV, by re-use of drugs and dirty eqp. Las Vegas, Wash state, and the VA in Florida being a few in 2009. Now I am thinking about getting my medical records from my hospital stay with WNM, and seeing if they gave me a Hepatitis test. If they did, and didnt find me infected with Hepatitis, then that pretty well points to Dr infecting me a couple of years later during my Colonscopy. The timeline and the low viral load all add up. If I had had Hepatitis since the early 1970's, then my viral load would be thru the roof, and I would have much higher liver labs, instead of normal liver labs [ALT/AST]. I think I am going to make a appmt with my GP, and see if I can have him help me get the records from WNM, and go thru them with me. Maybe all my medical records from pre-DX. I might be a rich man. love don in ks From: Theresa Gottlieb <theresagottlieb@...>Subject: Re: [ ] Don has joined me on the DARK side! Guest guest
Oh Don!!Well, here's my two cents! I looked up through our phone service to see if there was anyone in the City of Vancouver, that were called Liver Specialists or Hepotologist. Nope!! Now, my last treatment was done through a clinic that was especially for Hep C. My Gastro travels around giving seminars etc.Instead of worrying about you and 's Gastro, why don't you ask him how many patients with Hep C that he's dealt with. Also, find out if he has a certificate proving he specializes on livers.I can absolutely promise you that by 2006, the Hep C virus was extremely well known and especially any internal Dr. Please, don't cook up these kind of thoughts. See it as a blessing that no matter how long you have had Hep C, you have a relatively low count in every way. The viral count means nothing and more important is your liver enzymes at this point!! Really, you are absolutely blessed that the dragon hasn't done a whole lot more damage. Please, don't look for the negatives etc., count your blessings instead.Gloria Hi Teri I dont know if I am totally convinced that a Heptologist is the way to go, but it seems to me that folks with Gastro's on treatment, dont do as well. Guest guest
Gloria,If a doctor has a certificate to prove he specializes in livers he IS a Hepatologist. Because your liver is part of your gastro-intestinal tract the gastros are getting the liver problems but at least here in the US they are NOT well informed. With the work I have been doing, I have heard about the gastros that are talking people out of treatment, not offering treatment because they don't think the patient fits the mold and just giving out wrong information. Gastro's here mainly work in the hospitals and do upper and lower GI's. That's what they want to do and they tend to get ticked if they have to see patients in the office much less a patient that might be on treatment for a year. That's not what they signed up for. Granted your gastro is different and sounds like a good one.. but those seem to be rare when it comes to hep c. I tend to doubt that Don wound up with hep c because of a colonoscopy only because at that time the safeguards were already in place. It's possible but highly unlikely.
