Guest guest
Here is 's original response - message/95177. Hi again Barbara, It was late in the evening yesterday when I found your email to me and responded here. I got some information immediately posted but it was brief. My overall point was that there should be no reason yet for you to consider using Cytomel or liothyronine or any T3 only medicatiion. If iron is low or the adrenals are in a very bad state or any of the other essential co-factors of important enzymes or chemical processes involved in the action of thyroid hormone are low or missing then any form of thyroid hormone is likely to be problematic. T3 only replacement in fact would be likely to consume the limited resources at an even faster rate and cause more unpleasant symptoms, e.g. rapid heart rate. It appears to me that: a) one or more nutrient issues (like iron) or low cortisol may need to be addressed to give the natural thyroid a good crack at working correctly. and your current natural thyroid replacement may not be anywhere near the right dosage. As was pointed out to me last year by Jim Harwood the relationship between FT4, FT3 and TSH is what is known as an inverse logarithmic relationship. Hang on a minute - you don't need to understand the maths here in detail but basically it takes as much thyroid replacement hormone to reduce the TSH from 10.0 to 5.0 as it does to take it from 2.0 to 1.0. So, as you lower the TSH it takes increasing amounts of extra replacement hormone to move TSH by the same amount you have moved it already. A TSH of 5.0 is still considered by many to be high. So, there is much room yet to add more natural thyroid but right now this may just make some of the symptoms you have worse - it may not but there is a risk of this. Your issue appears to be the other things - not the thyroid hormone itself. I could be wrong but that is how it looks based on what you've said. As ever Sheila has been patient and spelled out all the necessary steps you should take and the tests you need to have done. There is NO SUBSTITUTE for thoroughness at this stage of the game as it will only result in significantly more wasted time in the long run. Do a good job now on this and you can look forward to many years of feeling well. No one on this site should ever consider switching to T3 until they have given the other treatments a good chance. In the majority of cases it is often the other non-thyroid hormone issues that actually need the work and some of these can take months to address correctly, e.g. iron levels. I hope this helps. Please use the forum to work this through rather than emails as you will benefit from the combined wisdom of the members. Take care, > > I continue to have a lot of muscle and joint pain. Would the most likely cause be serum iron of 75, low adrenals, hypothyroid, or an Rt3 of 26 (range 11-33), free t3 was 3.2(range 2.3-4.3)? >
Guest guest
I was like this when taking erfa, so perhaps you need to consider changing your thyroid to see if this helps. I was fine on armour (but not "perfect" on new armour) and now am fine on NatureThroid. Val I continue to have a lot of muscle and joint pain. Guest guest
thanks. this is enough to drive me crazy. i took naturethroid for a little while and felt bad but my dose was too low and i had the iron, adrenal issues and didn't know about it. my hair was falling out like crazy. i am scared to change because i heard the cellulose makes it hard to absorb the hormone. do you chew it up and take candex with it. please answer because i am desperate again because of the joint pain.do more people feel better on the naturethroid just chewing it up foor are the enzymes needed. > > I was like this when taking erfa, so perhaps you need to consider changing your thyroid to see if this helps. Guest guest
Barbara - you really do have to find the thyroid extract that suits you and not what suits somebody else. Most people do very well on the Erfa 'Thyroid' and this could be you. Others don't do well on the Nature Throid - probably all to do with the fillers. Go with your instinct. In fact, I know there are a lot of people who have not done well on Nature Throid, unlike Val, and who are using one of the other brands. If buying this yourself without prescription, you may well like 'Thyroid-s' or the Mexican 'Thiroyd' which are much, much cheaper options and work extremely well. Check out the 'Internet Pharmacies' in our FILES SECTION to see where you can buy these from. Also, with the latter, you are less likely to have your packages stopped at Customs with VAT added to the price and then £8.00 Royal Mail Handling Charges for items over £15. What are you doing to sort out the iron and adrenal issues? Luv - Sheila thanks. this is enough to drive me crazy. i took naturethroid for a little while and felt bad but my dose was too low and i had the iron, adrenal issues and didn't know about it. my hair was falling out like crazy. i am scared to change because i heard the cellulose makes it hard to absorb the hormone. do you chew it up and take candex with it. please answer because i am desperate again because of the joint pain.do more people feel better on the naturethroid just chewing it up foor are the enzymes needed. > > I was like this when taking erfa, so perhaps you need to consider changing your thyroid to see if this helps.
