Hi Abuama, and the rest of the group.

I was reading a couple of exchanges, which I now can’t find. But I think that they started from inquiries by our new member Abuama, who said that doctors told him that you can eat any any any food even with liver damage.

The CDC says the same thing, eat whatever you want, just stay away from alcohol and too much Tylenol.

At a clinic I have been going to in Seattle, they have a group of Naturopaths that help people. They are a bunch of supervised students from Bastyr University, which pioneers the study and training in natural medicine. If you are not near Seattle you have probably never heard of this bunch, www.bastyr.edu , it’s a pretty cool organization.

They recommended to me a liver support diet. Foods to include are at least two servings a day of: “green leafy vegetables (kale, collards, mustard greens, spinach, dandelion greens, etc) along with the cooking liquid, cruciferous vegetables (cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, etc.), endive, cucumbers, beets, garlic, onions, artichokes, sprouted seeds, all raw and juiced vegetables, grains, tahini, and organic liver.â€

Foods to avoid are: “All processed and refined foods, sugar, refined salt, coffee, tea, alcohol, all drugs and synthetic vitamis and herbal supplements ( except ads directed by your physician), excessive or oxidized fat and oils, non-organic meats or poultry, eggs or dairy products, farm-raised fish, heavy starches (potatoes, rice, bread, cereal), heavy proteins (animal products), strong culinary spices, condiments except lemon juice and sea salt.â€

Then for me they recommend getting ripe Milk Thistle seeds and grinding them yourself, and having 1 tsp per day.

For me, the foods to avoid list was pretty big – what is left to eat? Am I going to be grazing on dandelions in the field for the rest of my days? Must I purchase a juicer? Nevertheless, I have been endeavoring to include different sorts of foods into my diet. Like beets, which I have never prepared or eaten at home before. Hunting the neighborhoods for a store that sells whole, ripe milk thistle seeds has also been an adventure.

Thanks for listening,

Cynde
