I had a ct scan about 2 weeks ago b/c of abdomen pain. I was just called by my

primary physician and was told that the results show leisions on the liver, a

thickening around the heart and calcium in the abdomen. I was also told that I

have hepatopulmonary syndrom. Does anyone know if hep c can cause all of these

issues?, What do leisions on the liver mean? Are they worst than fibrosis or are

they the same? Please if anyone can help me to understand more about this

disease I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and God bless,

Margo

Hi Margo

You ask - 'Does anyone know if hep c can cause all of these issues?'

- Yes, HCV can, and does sometimes.

You ask - 'Are they [liver lesions] worst than fibrosis, or are they the same?'

- Fibrosis and Cirrhosis are scarring [dead tissue] in the liver, caused by liver disease.

To my understanding, liver lesions are mostly somewhat different, but may be caused by Cirrhosis [see article below].

HCV is a 'liver disease' that attacks every part of our body due to the compromising of our immune system, while also destroying the liver.

The liver is very important in helping to maintain a healthy immune system.

- article excerpt

Abnormalities in the structure of the liver, including tumor, injuries, infections, etc., are conditions that are classified as liver lesions. In some cases, these lesions are confined to a particular area and have clear boundaries. Such liver lesions are called focal lesions and those without any clear boundaries are called diffused ones. Liver lesions may develop due to many different causes and some of them can be cancerous too. In some cases, benign liver lesions may get malignant with time. Some of the benign liver lesions are found to be solid or fluid-filled. It has been observed that most of the liver lesions are benign in nature. Even though, some of those benign liver

lesions are not found to cause symptoms and for which, treatment is not required, right diagnosis is very much important to confirm that the condition as benign and harmless.

...............continued.................

Even fatty liver and liver cirrhosis may cause diffused liver lesions.

In medicine, hepatopulmonary syndrome is a syndrome of shortness of breath and hypoxemia (low oxygen levels in the blood of the arteries) caused by vasodilation (broadening of the blood vessels) in the lungs of patients with liver disease. Dyspnea and hypoxemia are worse in the upright position (which is called platypnea and orthodeoxia, respectively).

Margo, I have COPD, most likely caused by decades of cigarette and pot use.

But I have read that HCV can also cause Heptopulmonary issues in non-smokers, and much more.

There are links to many HCV related conditions in the LINKS LIBRARY: folders 011 -

http://health.dir./group/ /links

It is impossible for me to explain everything in detail that is related to HCV in a post.

I can and do however, provide links, but it is important that each of us do our own research, and reading to fully understand our own health.

I strongly encourage each person to do so.

I will help you as much as I can, because like I say, I feel that it is important.

I am not a medical professional, but I do research alot, because I too want to know about my own body.

I try to share what I find, because each of you all need to know also.

With this exchange, all of our research can go a lot faster.

Another source of information is one's doctors.

I research things, and ask around.

Then I ask my doctor 'yes-no' questions to clarify my research with a professional opinion.

The doctor may not have the time to explain things in detail, but they can answer yes or no questions.

Margo, I hope that the info that I have provided you, helps you some.

If not, I will try again.
