Hi,

I don't drink often but at the holidays i may have a nice glass of wine or a nice expensive scotch on the rocks if my son in law offers but other than that i could care less about booze. Oh, a mojito when floating in my pool is delightful too. My doctor said you can't drink for 6 months before tx but she said it didn't pertain to me because i guess I don't drink enough booze. But she never mentioned i could never have another drink after tx. So, I am confused and guess I will have to ask when I see her for my last appt in June.

I thought you couldn't drink because of the meds but now it sounds like because of the virus. Oh well, like i said i don't really care but just wondered after all the emails about alcohol.

Thanks,

Donna

Hi Donna,As all of you know, having Hep C is a virus within the liver and the worst thing you can do to your liver is drink alcohol (the liver gets all of our intake of food and liquid). Many people who drink alcohol get cerrosis of the liver and many of them don't have Hep C. But us with Hep C and also drinking alcohol you are hitting your liver twice as hard because of the virus and putting alcohol on top of that. I haven't had a drink for 5 years now and I found out I had Hep C in 1993. At that time they didn't push no alcohol and Hep C for I was able to go on the medicine the first time around and still drink. Now as you know it is very different. I would type more but I'm heading for work. But alcohol hurts those without Hep C,,,imagine what it will do to those of us that have an ill liver

already.I hope that helped and remember, it is your body.Love,SheilaFrom: dmgarr@... <dmgarr@...>Subject: [ ] No drinks ever again after tx?" " < >Date: Friday, April 29, 2011, 1:28 PM

Hi Sheila,

Thanks. I thought when the virus is gone that was it but i never really thought it through. Thanks for spelling it out because I really don't know much about this. I read a lot of info and it makes me more confused.

So, like everything else that isn't good for us we should just NOT do it.

Take care,

Donna
