Guest guest
It's kinda funny I woke up thinking about this and the first e-mail I read is about contaminated food. So far in the last couple of years I have been told it is not safe to eat beef, chicken, pork, fish, veggies, milk, eggs and all processed food. They all contain pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and who knows what else. Have also been told washing them only gets rid of some of the bad stuff cause it is absorbed all the way through. The only safe things to eat are organic's but on SSI's poverty pay that aint happening. It's all very depressing. What I am wandering is if anyone has just gone to the grocery store, baught a bunch of the same things most of us buy and took it to there lab and tested it then let us know exactly what is in it. That would be some info we could all work with instead of just scaring us. Not dissing your article at all Don, It is a helpfull one...Thanks for posting it. Guest guest
Hi Butch No offence taken. I kinda think like you do about this topic. I have been saying for years that our food is not really clean or safe, even if one grows it themselves organically. I was ready to move to Nepal, and become a 'breathterrian'. LOL :-) If you do grow your own food you have to deal with the daily pollutants in the air, and whats already deposited in the soil [from air and rain]. If you raise your own meats, the feeds contain all sorts of chemicals, as well as the pollutants deposited by air and rain. It doesnt matter much where you live, near or in a city, high on a mountainside, 100 miles out in the desert, or on a tropical island - you cant excape car and factory exhaust in the wind and rain. Paints a pretty bleak and sad picture doesnt it? If the true story ever came out big time, people worldwide would crap. I saw a really neat TV show - Natl Geo Explorer - 'The Virus Hunters'. It talked a bit about how viruses are the foundation of life, and how mankind is altering the DNA/RNA in living things, and how we are on the cusp of evolving new life forms, including man. It even went so far as to explain the viruses are behind all our emotions, and that this could be the cause of wars, and divorses. Pretty far fetched, I admit, but this is all genetic new science. We wont live long enough to see the final chapter. The thing that we must keep in mind is to try to eat as good a diet, and live as good a lifestyle as we can. I tell people to get back to eating 'LIVE FOODS', and avoid anything in a can. Then at least your getting the best of what is available on the grocery shelf, and trying to be as healthy as you can be. Sorry folks - Im not really trying to be negative, or paint a bleak picture. I just think that we should all be aware of all of the possibilitys. Hopefully, I am very wrong. love don in ks From: butchholland2002 <butchholland2002@...>Subject: [ ] Re: VIDEO - Top 15 Least Contaminated Fruits, Vegetables Date: Sunday, April 24, 2011, 10:00 AM It's kinda funny I woke up thinking about this and the first e-mail I read is about contaminated food. Guest guest
Thank you Cynde That was a very interesting post, and very logical. I believe it all comes back to what I have been trying to tell everyone - eat 'LIVE FOODS'. Live foods are as close to their natural state as you can find. For example, eat whole bananas, not banana chips, or banana pudding unless you make it yourself. Eat whole apples, not canned or jared apple sauce unless you process it yourself. The same applys to any food that you consume - buy it in the most natural state that you can find it in. Fresh or frozen is what I look for. Not canned or packaged. It may take a little more time to prepare your meals, but I believe it will be better for a person in the long run. We may still get 'some' pollutants, but it will probably be a lot less than if we go buy something pre-packaged, and filled with chemicals you cannot pronounce. love don in ks From: Cynde Moya <cyndemoya@...>Subject: Re: [ ] Re: VIDEO - Top 15 Least Contaminated Fruits, Vegetables Date: Sunday, April 24, 2011, 2:23 PM I just read this fascinating book about the food industry – The End of Food. There were a number of compelling and terrifying facts about the food industry, which consists of only about 5 global companies. Food consumption is different from consuming, say, CDs, DVDs, video games, clothing, etc. You can always get another CD, buy another dress – the main problem is storage. But humans can only eat so much. How to entice them to consume more food? How does the food industry continue to expand, as the logic of capitalism insists? One strategy is supersizing plus convenience; the adding of eating / snacking opportunities at every turn (convenience stores, fast food outlets, vending machines, and all that). We’re seeing the results of this in the epidemic of obesity in the West, and increasingly in Eastern countries. Another strategy is adding value. A pound of corn is a commodity, and only costs so much. Food companies can make a lot more money from that pound of corn if it is processed into corn flakes or chips or whatever, and packaged in shiny containers, and marketed heavily. This food industry is global. Food production (growing corn, growing hogs) is moved to the most economical and least regulated locations across the planet. Heavy use of pesticides, antibiotics, etc. we all know about, but still don’t understand the long-term effects. Plus dishonest merchants adulterate foods, such as the Chinese melamine-in-baby-formula thing a couple of years ago. There was just a study that showed that over 50% of the beef in our grocery stores is contaminated with staph. So far the food industry has managed to foist off the responsibility for this onto individual consumers, who are responsible for “proper food handling†once the food gets into individual kitchens. Then you mention organics – we should eat organics, or feel guilty if we don’t have enough money to buy the stuff. Well, the organic industry is not well regulated. What counts as organic changes from state to state, nation to nation. The major food companies have noticed the desire for organic foods, and have jumped on the bandwagon, and are doing whatever they can, including fraud, cutting corners, and clever interpretation of regulations, to drive and keep the prices down. I don’t think that the so-called organic food is going to be much better than heavily farmed food, not for long anyway. So: what to do? I don’t know. Maybe we should make it the best health merit to eat as little as possible, and be just a little bit underweight; that’s supposed to be healthy and add to longevity. Perhaps that will foil the food industry. Meanwhile, we’ve got to eat something. Guest guest
Hi Butch, I am so old that I remember what we did in WWII when food was rationed (gas was rationed too). We grew a garden and raised chickens. We had fruit trees. We shared costs with a nearby farmer who had a few pigs and a cow. Meat was rationed then too. We lived in town--but not a city. My mom canned at home on hot summer days with no air conditioning in the Texas heat and humidity. There was polio, TB--NO antibiotics--no head meds-- My granddaughter has a large garden in her yard out in Long Beach Ca. She's a little different from many folks (in the Peace Corp for a while in Africa). She also gives " healthy foods " cooking classes. I agree that far too many things today are based in FEAR. The TRUTH is that most folks live LONGER and in better health than when I was growing up. Anyway, that is just my thinking-- SuziQ > > > > VIDEO - Top 15 Least Contaminated Fruits, Vegetables > > > > ABC News > > > > The EWG has a complete list of fruits and vegetables tested at its website. > > > > Methodology > > > > VIDEO > > http://Hepatitis Cnewdrugs.blogspot.com/2011/04/top-15-least-contaminated-fruits.\ html > > > > > > >
