Welcome to the family new members. I know this is a scary time for you but you're not alone. We have a cross section of people here, everything from people who test positive but have no symptoms to those who have had transplants & all those in between. Those who have succeeded at tx(treatment) & others, like me who've tried & not responded at all. Some of us are on tx now, some are ESLD(end stage liver disease) either awaiting a t p (transplant) or just living with it. I'm SuZie & I live up here in the GWN (Great White North) - Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada with SpYke, my companion, pest control officer & Galactic Overlord In Training a k a Sir SpYke the Fuzzy, my kitty cat. He almost has me trained to his expectations. I tested HCV+ in the early '90s but my docs figure I've had it since the late '60s. I was dx'd then with "serum hepatitis" which covered hep C, hep B & others I think. Now, 40 years later I have cirrhosis & I'm in ESLD. I was assessed for a transplant last September & was told "not yet". I've tried tx twice but not responded & was going to try a third time when my doc found that I was in ESLD & wouldn't let me try again it could have just made things worse. Anyways, if you want to know more about us there are files at the group site - mini-bios etc. Like De said, if you have a question ask someone here will either have the answer or know where to find it. Jim if you are worried about your son,get his blood checked.I can't see catching this from sweat. Most heps have been passed by blood to blood, like sharing a tooth brush, hep b with unprotected sex.You can have a normal life but explain to your son not to use your personal stuff because of something that is in your blood.Yes when you get these medical problems cleared up,there is no reason why you can't have a family.I am glad you told your girlfriend and also glad she has had her shots. You will need your hep A shot and phemonia shot. These are shots we get because our immune system is impaired and without these shots serious illnesses can kill us.Take one day at a time and get informed as much as you can.

Hi Jimmy I thought when I told my boyfreind , that he would lose me, but he ended up being totally supportive ( no sex, but everything else is good). People surprise you sometimes. If they really care, they will be around for the bad stuff too. I'm on week 6 for treatment and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. It's not peachy either, but it's do-able. Jimmy,

I’m so glad you told her and even happier that she responded better than

you expected. Now you have all of us for hugs plus someone for live

hugs. You’re a lucky man.

No

need to worry over what has already been done. You can’t change the

past. You’re doing the right thing now to keep your stuff in the

dresser. Get your son tested. Chances are excellent that he DOESN’T

have it. Neither of mine did & I’m sure I had the hep when I

birthed them, and they used my razors before we knew. You can have more

children, just can’t cause pregnancy while you’re on tx or for 6

months (I think) after you’re done. The ribivirin can cause birth

defects.

Hugs,

De

De Is Right About The 6 Months But You Also Need To

Look At The Having Kids From The Hep B Side. I Was

Thinking You Said You Both Have Hep B. That Will Be An

Issue To Discuss With The Dr. But Things Have Changed

Alot Just Over The Last 10 Yrs. Women With Aids Have

Babies All The Time And They Are Healthy. Yes

Different Issue, But My Point Is You Never Know What

Tomorrow May Bring On The Medical Front. Never Give Up

Hope Or The Dragon Wins. And I For One Do Not Plan On

Being Beaten By A Mythological Creature! :) Have A

Great Day. Bed Time For Me. Love And Hugs d

Yup call me nuts but you gotta laugh its better than crying. I was in a big funk yesterday slept most of day and fell back to sleep at 5 PM and slept til 8AM today. Don't know what happened, I am sure it isn't tx just stuff at home. I am 61 and live in California genotype 1-B. Welcome to the group they are so wonderful. Hugs to you..WW

Hi, Pat. Thank you for the warm welcome. I too missed the meeting. I had it on my mind all day but was still getting dinner ready when the meeting started and forgot about it until an hour after the meeting was over. I really wanted to participate in that meeting too. I am 56 until July, at least. Will be starting tx probably in July. That is the next appointment with my dr. anyway. I'm waiting to hear what my genotype is. Hopefully it won't be too long before they get back to me with that as blood was taken for that test last Friday. Everyone in this site has been so good to me and I am glad I found You all. Reading the stories of some of the members has reminded me about some things I need to have ready when treatment starts. I am starting on St 's Wort and Milk Thistle right away as well as vitamins B, C and E. I need to get offline as we are having a bad thunder storm tonight. We'll talk more later. Vickie,

be sure to ask your doc about the herbs. You don’t want to take anything

without him knowing while you’re on tx cuz anything you take can throw

off your labs.

Re:

Welcome new members

Hi, Pat. Thank you for the warm welcome. I

too missed the meeting. I had it on my mind all day but was still getting

dinner ready when the meeting started and forgot about it until an

hour after the meeting was over. I really wanted to participate in

that meeting too.

I am 56 until July, at least. Will be starting

tx probably in July. That is the next appointment with my dr.

anyway. I'm waiting to hear what my genotype is. Hopefully it won't

be too long before they get back to me with that as blood was taken for that

test last Friday. Everyone in this site has been so good to me and I am

glad I found You all. Reading the stories of some of the members has

reminded me about some things I need to have ready when treatment starts.

Will he adjust my treatment meds according to what I take? Or, does he just account for the vitamins etc. when he looks at my labs? Thank you, Vickie Motley <dmotley@...> wrote: Vickie, be sure to ask your doc about the herbs. You don’t want to take anything without him knowing while

Hi vicky, Im still up too..your doctor will probably tell you what vitamins & or herbs you cant take..He wont adjust your tx meds...But make sure you tell him everything you are taking, make a list of questions too and hand it to him next time you see him..We all get the white coat syndrome..when we walk in the docs office and seem to forget 1/2 of what we intended to ask...

BTW..Im 56 yrs old too..Im geno 1 stage 2 grade 1..and undetectable for 3 yrs in July!!...my labs have been normal since week 24 of tx..my vl was only 39,000, jumped to 5 million at week 12 then cleared at 24..whew!

My love and concern is with all new members just starting this journey, but remember Your positive attitude goes along way and I think promotes better health ..and chances for clearing..just my 2 cents..Nice to meet ya

Patty
