Hi Patti,

I am so glad to hear that you feel better! You mentioned your headaches are gone, too.

That must be such a relief. The best thing.

Do your headaches come with your brain fog? I think with me that is the case.

I am really beating the brain fog with my sugar free diet. Next month I will set aside time

for possible brain fog and to test my theory I will have a piece of cake.

It is easy to stay off sugar completely, of course it excludes things like ketchup, mayonaise,

a sandwich bought somewhere else and all pre-prepared food. Sadly I cannot think of anything

to snack on in between. Except - I bake really yummy biscuits for my dog, they are mostly

organic ingredients and taste delicious when freshly baked!

For sweet things I eat yoghurt with sugarfree jam, today I had organic yoghurt with fresh blueberries

and maple sirup and cream. I make organic cocoa sweetened with maple sirup, tastes much

better than with (even organic unrefined) sugar.

My joint pain has improved a lot, too. Don't know why, maybe just time.

You are very astute! I remember Dr. Kolb used to say that the brain fog was due to candida, and of course, if you have a candida issue, sugar is a major no-no. I have been able to eat sugar and not have brain fog at times, so it is hard for me to pinpoint it to just sugar, and I really never knew if I had a candida issue or not. (I never had vaginal infections in the early days of my illness, when my fog was the worst. It was only recently that I have had some burning issues there which the tea tree oil fixed right up!) The brain fog could be a combination of allergies, perhaps to dairy, to wheat, to sugar, or anything, really. But I think you are onto something with the ice cream/sugar and watching your reactions to foods is one of the best ways to help get through this mess.

I had been enjoying my freedom from the fog for so long, I had forgotten how crappy it was to deal with it. Honestly, I think my fog has been gone for almost a year until my dental cleaning in June that brought it back in full force.

I was tested for food allergies after about a year of dealing with my illness, and found to be allergic to chocolate and brewers yeast, but the test revealed an allergy that was delayed hypersensivity (IgG) instead of immediate hypersensitivity (IgE). What I was told was that if I avoided the substance for a period of time, the allergy could probably disappear. So I had no chocolate for an entire year. (Any chocoholics out there?) Maybe that helped my healing, but I suspected other allergies as well. I have been eating chocolate again, so maybe I better knock it off!

Thanks for sharing that with us ! I am going to commit to absolutely no sugar again for awhile. I've seen through my healing journey that eventually we can indulge in some forbidden foods. I think has found that to be true too. Going without sugar completely is a hard one to do for me...how is it easy for you????

And you are right about the sleep. I always feel my best in the morning. Then the fog usually creeps in. You know, now that I think about this, my brain fog seems to hit right after I eat something! I don't like to eat first thing in the morning, and sometimes I'll go hours without eating. But it isn't too soon after that that the fog rolls in..... I think there is definitely a relationship to food allergies here!

Time for giving the liver a break!

Subject: Re: Patti - out of the fog

Patti, in the last few days I was lurking here and couldn't write. Partly because I am so fed up and disgusted with the brain fog, and so thick (as we say here)

My brain fog was lifting slowly but nicely and then I had an ice-cream with my daughter a week ago. The next day I was as dull as anything and too emotional, very tired and totally fogged up.

It may have happened anyway, I'll never know that. Personally I feel that it may have to do with my reaction to the sugar in the ice-cream (of course it could have been any ingredient or a combination of ingredients). It would be nice if sugar was the culprit, as it would be easy not to eat any sugar, ever.

So - for a week I have been completely avoiding sugar and anything containing even the minutest amounts of sugar and I think my brain fog is almost gone. Yesterday I was able to do businessy things and today I was able to have an intelligent discussion in a shop about their bad policies (mark up of camera products compared to USA over 200%!!).

When I am in my brain fog I do not like to deal with numbers.

I would like to try and see what happens if I eat sugar, but I am too scared.

IF it is the sugar in some way, maybe it has to do with the pancreas, or insulin, or whatever. I wish I was a medical or pharmaceutical person and knew about these things. A person who has studied chemistry might be able to make some connections.

I also think that, to get out of the fog, sleep is very important. Particularly to relax and go to sleep when the body asks for it. The amount may not matter, I fare better with 6 - 7 hours, not more.

Hugs,

Sunday ()

Is your brain fog gone while even eating those sweets--the maple syrup and sugar free jams?

I find that any sweetener affects me, including the high fructose corn syrups, anything with dextrose, maltose, lactose, fructose, sucrose, or any other -ose foods or sneaky sweeteners. I always have stayed away from the artificial sweeteners, too, like aspartame, sucralose and saccharin. Just don't trust them, and particularly aspartame has more adverse reaction reports than any other product the FDA regulates.

(See http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/ , for one example)

So glad you are feeling better, and me too! I don't think I am totally out of the woods yet, as my period still has not started, and my brain fog seems to be lurking on the fringes...like it wants to strike, but not quite ready to. So, I am continuing my detox diet and coffee enemas. Hopefully things will be completely normal again soon, and I pray that all of you are feeling better and better.

Hugs,

Patty

Hey there girl, I was reading this article in Womans day magazine at

work yesterday and it was all about how your period can affect your

health esp if you have underlying physical illnesses. I know for me

as much as I am healed I get affects from my period before hand as

well. I notice that I get the headaches, that my emotions get way

crazy in different ways allot of the time, mood swings and go from

happy to sad to crying to angry allot over the littlest things. I

also notice I do not sleep as well before my period. Then I get it

and the things settle down. I really do believe the hormones wreak

havoc on our bodies at times. I know the older i get the worse it

seems to get too. They had a whole thing about it the other day on Dr

Phil, does anyone watch him here? I do once in awhile. I found out

his wife has implants too. Anyhow she was talking about her menopause

issues and I was thinking that she sounds like she has allot of

issues, maybe it is her implants. SO many will never figure it out ya

know. There is always something else to blame it on. Anyhow, just

thought I would throw this out there. I wish I could honestly say

that I notice a difference in how I feel lately if I eat healthy or

if I eat more junk, I just seem to feel about the same, though my

guilt gets worse, hee hee. I mean I do use splenda and I eat stuff

with sugar in it and don't seem to be getting brain fog with any of

it. I just don't know why it is that it affects some of us so much

and others not as much. I do think I need to get back to some

supplements and better eating. I mean with receptions and picnics to

go to and fairs and vacation, and now my and my hubby's birthdays,

there is always some even with food that is not healthy going on. I

do need to watch things again, but so far it has not made me gain

weight or feel bad so I won't get too stressed on it.

I do feel better emotionally when I eat healthier, but then I can get

really frustrated when I diet and stay the exact same weight as when

I eat tons of junk. My body is just so happy to be at this weight I

asume that is why it does not move much up or down on the scale. I

mean working out of course helps all that too.

Anyow I am rambling so I need to get going. Want to reply to a few

other posts today before I go off and do things.

Patti,

I simply don't eat a lot sweet things. My brain fog was definitely gone with those jams and the maple sirup. No sweeteners other than those in my diet, apart from what naturally occurs in fruit.

I don't drink any alcohol whatsoever ever. Half a glass of wine and my head is "closed", all thinking is barred and all I want to do is go to bed. It feels related to brain fog. Maybe it is the fermented sugars.

I do now that the maple sirup absolutely does not affect me. And I think I know that cocoa helps beat my brain fog, it raises serotonin levels naturally and therefore has some effect on the brain. I wish I knew what goes on in there regarding chemical reactions.

I am also drink cocoa made from pure organic cocoa powder in hot milk without sweetener. One can get used to that. It is actually quite nice.

By the way, the brain fog and me grinding my teeth (only at night!) are connected.

Yesterday I overslept and was foggy for most of the day, foggy to the point of leaving important things behind. I was so angry about it. I am still angry about something taking over and me not being able to switch it off, or rather switch on the brightness and spunk in my head.

Today I am ok if a little "hung-over" from the brain fog. Stress and overload and somehow sleeping wrongly very easily help to bring this on, too.

Almost 20 years ago I read that aspartame and similar artificial sweeteners can lead to brain seizures so they were banned from family. Just in case!

Somewhere on a German candida site I read a doctors opinion regarding enemas, and he stated that it could have the adverse effect if done too often as the fungus would fight for survival etc. etc.. Anyway, not available in Ireland, so I have no choice anyway.

Are you sure you are not pregnant :.)?
