Guest guest
I had a similar situation...though not so many stones. I refused surgery and saw a chiropractor who did craniosacral therapy and put me on a number of supplements. At first I got worse, then finally started to improve. After seeing him for about 6 months the attacks stopped. We both thought I was cured. Then I relapsed 5 months later. I stopped seeing the chiropractor, thinking he'd done all he could do for me. I then saw an accupuncturist. I was attack free for 3 weeks, then things got worse. After a few months I gave up on him. I started taking Tums. I've been attack free since mid-September. I'm not ready to say I'm cured...I get nervous almost every time I eat...but I'm feeling great. I don't know what is going on with me. My GI specialist thinks it's gallstones, but I certainly believe stomach acid plays a role. I think the chiropractor helped. For one, the supplements seem to have enlarged my ducts, making it easier to pass stones when I was having attacks. I forgot to mention that when I relapsed I was having up to 2 attacks a day, 4 times a week...but they were mild and short lived. Previously they lasted 5 hours and were very intense. This is just my experience. I was really careful about acidic food, and took Tums. I only take one a day now unless I know I'll be eating tomato or lemon or something. -----Original Message----- From: lynne93550 [mailto:lynne93550@...] Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 2:53 PM gallstones Subject: Age and GB Attacks Hi...I am Lynne and age 53. I have been having GB attacks since the summer and they are gradually getting more frequent and worse. It is now getting so I can't eat anymore without getting a huge stomachache afterwards and then I have to make myself throw up. I have lost 20 pounds in 3 weeks. I had an ultra sound after a massive attack a month or so ago and it showed up that half my GB is filled with stones. the doctor said I'd better get surgery right away. I am anti-surgery and thought that if I went on the right diet that the attacks would stop. I have been eating small amounts of oatmeal and fat-free soy-milk and I still had an attack today. I am feeling like I just don't want to live like this...I would rather die. And there is no way that I will be cut open on an operating table. NEVER!!!! So I just don't know what to do. I am too sick right now to do any flush. It would kill me. Does anyone have a suggestion??? Guest guest
Dear Lynne, It is certainly very discouraaging when you are so sick. Perhaps you need to go on a diet that will ease your gallbladder pain. You may need to try a few different things before you find what works best for you. Try to have a juice diet. This may give your system a bit of rest and help your gallbladder to heal a bit. It is very irritated right now and needs to calm down. Apple juice will help to soften the stones (making them easier to pass). Beet juice will help to stimulate the bile. Try a bit of beet juice and see how it sits in your stomach. If you're fine then add a few vegetables to it to ceate a " V8 " type juice. You might try alternating a vegetable juice with a fruit juice over the day. Of course freshly juiced juices are the very best, but worse comes to worse, you could try store bought juices (if you have no juicer). Lecithin is also supposed to help thin out your bile. The gel capsules can be taken a few times a day and may ease your gallbladder as well. Taurine is another substance that is suppposed to ease the gallbladder. You might also want to try some liver support herbs. These can be purchased at a health food store. Look for a formula that's main ingredients are DANDELION and MILK THISTLE. These two herbs are very important to help liver, kidneys and gallbladder. These will greatly help you. You may also want to try drinking a glass of warm water in the morning with the juice of 1/2 a lemon. These are a few ideas to start with. You may also wish to search the group's links , files and archives for more ideas. I'm sure that others will reply with more ideas as well. Wishing you success, ~Suzanne --- In gallstones , " lynne93550 " <lynne93550@y...> wrote: > Hi...I am Lynne and age 53. Guest guest
I would try taking 2,000mg of Vitamin C every two hours for about 8 hours, then taking a mild dose of Epsom salts and another dose of salts four hours later. As I was doing that I would try eating whatever stays down for you -- the Vitamin C will actually help with the digestion of that, too -- and drinking plenty of water so you don't dehydrate later with the Epsom salts. I would also massage my gall bladder to help break up the stone mass and make it more likely that a few would pass out and help clear up this acute situation. I use a percussive massage someone else here suggested, where you put your hand flat over your gall bladder, then hit the back of your hand rythmically with your other hand in a fist... kind of like you're playing the drums. That works well to relieve that tight feeling for me... if I'm not too tender I can also use an electric massager. Do you have any symptoms of infection? Fever, redness, passage of blood? I hope the outpouring of advice from this group has already brought you some relief. Now I'll go read what they've been telling you. Guest guest
Now I'm the opposite, I need more acid to help digest the food and get it out of there quicker! I think the lemon juice from the cleanse does wonders to help my digestion. I've stopped having indigestion completely now that I started taking at least 2,000mg of Vitamin C each day. Guest guest
Lynne, I had another thought, and maybe that's why I suggested the vitamin C in the first place. You describe this as a stomachache and that you help relieve the pain by vomiting. I had a similar situation a few years ago and was successfully treated by an allergist. He said I had a food sensitivity and gave me Seldane and I was able to easily control the problem that way. I began the tests to figure out what kind of food I was allergic to but between moving to a new air base and another pregnancy that got put on the back burner. I now try to rotate foods more -- not just rely on the same old things every day. I suspect I may have some celiac disease because I respond really well to a wheat-free diet. As I said, what works for me now is high doses of vitamin c. Whenever I feel like my stomach is about to explode I take a couple of Vitamin C tablets and sip water and the pain goes away in no time. I usually follow it up with more Vitamin C to wash the offending food on out of my system faster. The Epsom salts would really help with that, as well as help relax the bile ducts so you could pass stones less painfully if any are ready to come out. A " mild dose " of Epsom salts would be 1 or 2 tablespoons in a cup of warm water. You drink that. Yes, they really are edible. Look on the box, it makes it clear that people have been ingesting Epsom salts for a long time. I hope this isn't too much for your system at this point. Guest guest
I have yet to have had a gall bladder attack even though an ultra- sound showed I had gallstones. The worst I get is a tight feeling in my upper right abdomen, just under my ribs. Vitamin C has worked for me, my mother, and my brother... we are all type O's who eat quite a bit of milk products and some meat. That's all I can go by. I have no idea what your body needs, but it is interesting to compare and consider what works for others and why.
