Judy: While I agree with the details of your message I disagree with the

spirit of the idea of black and white on cleanses -- or anything. I prefer the

" do something better " approach. In other words, if you need to change your diet

and need to drink apple juice start with what you can get your hands on FAST

and then do something better as quickly as you comfortably can.

The wine industry twice shot themselves in the foot over this philosphy. Wine

sales went up and then the wine people began to bash the kinds of wine people

were drinking -- so rather than upgrading their wines the avg consumer felt

" put down " and stopped drinking wine altogether.

On a board such as this the veterans need to be very sensitive to the state

of the new member. They are sick, in pain and scared -- they are venturing out

of their comfort zone to even consider something different from take this pill

and have this surgery.

Making it easy and INCLUSIVE versus hard and EXCLUSIVE fans the flame of

confidence for those folks.

I arrived the same way -- scared, sick and in pain. Luckily we have a health

food section at our supermarket close to the house so I could get the sludge-y

whole apple juice in the beginning. As I felt better I could think clearly

enough to say -- " hmmm maybe I can grate fresh apples or juice them even.... " so

I could make a little time to go to the next step of juicing fresh apples.

But then again I do not have young kids who require tons of time from me no

matter how I feel.....

I am very respectful of those people, who are barely hanging on in their

lives and have gbladder issues on top of everything else. I have been there many

days myself and on those days I was doing good to drink ANY kind of apple

juice.

Getting off my soap box now....

You cannot make bile nor flush liver poisons from your system without plenty

of water -- I feel so dumb -- Water should be the # 1 recommendation -- not

apple juice. Good catch Leah, you found the PERFECT combo straight out of the

box.

Thanks ,

Venturing into this alternative, natural approach to my health has been

quite overwhelming. There's just been too much to consider, too much to

learn, and all at once. Apple juice seemed like a simple 'baby step' --if

you will. And then I picked up some fresh grapefruits at the grocery store,

and some oranges, and apples too. I have been making a conscience effort to

eat fruit, especially citrus. And I've been drinking apple juice, and lots

of water, instead of depriving myself of fluids, as I have a tendancy to do.

To hear that this is 'not enough'--that I have to dive in deeper and

seemingly dedicate all my waking moments on this right away, just makes me

want to throw up my hands in despair. Don't buy canned apple juice, and then

perhaps, don't get your grapefruits from the regular grocery store (they

have to be organically grown) etc, etc--I only have so much time and money

to work with here.....I know that when it comes to my health, there should

be no compromise. But by putting a natural remedy higher and higher up on

the shelf--well, it's discouraging.

But I appreciate all the honesty and advice I have been getting from you

folks on this list. I feel like I have some hope for wellness. I have been

feeling unwell again--my liver is feeling fuller, and sorer, and I am

feeling weary and worn out. I am afraid of having another attack before I

can get in for my ercp on Wednesday and have those stones removed from my

liver.

Thanks for allowing me to share. I know the flush is highly recommended, but

I admit that it scares me right now. So thanks also for being supportive of

me in that decision as well.

Thank you for your post . For me this really hit home. I am one of those

who is 'barely hanging on' a Mother to 6 small children who are home educated, I

also run my Husbands business as well as work part time from home (which,

because of the nature of my job, often turns into way more than part time!) and

I am almost 30w pregnant with our newest blessing.

My liver and gallbladder trouble has been the single most overwhelming thing

that has ever happened to me. I come from a family full of doctors, nurses and

Health professionals who have been so unsupportive and destructive in their

'advice' that in times of severe pain I have seriously considered giving in and

going along with them. i.e My Mother would come and help me with the children

*if* I had the surgery but because I didn't hasn't set foot inside our house and

doesn't even call to see how we are doing.

I am terrified that I am revelling in a false sense of security thinking I have

done/am doing the right thing but in fact I am wrong and I am going to have a

reocurrance of my liver problem and next time, as the specialist told me when I

discharged myself from hospital, I am going to die and leave my children

Motherless.

I would love nothing more than to sit on the 'net until I have learned

everything I need to know to cure myself and get rid of the gallstones which I

presume are still in my gallbladder and liver (hopefully getting smaller but I

have NO guarantees of that at all) but it is not possible so in the meantime I

have no option but to learn from you all here and hope and pray that I am doing

as much as I can and that I can complete my pregnancy without another attack.

So to those of you who take the time to answer the questions I, and others post,

I, my husband and our children thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

God Bless you all

Mama.

Is this your first ERCP Leah?

Also are you using heat packs and castor oil packs on your liver? They helped me

tremendously.

Blessings

Mama.

This is my third ERCP. Hey--now I know why they call you 'mama'! Six kids,

with a seventh on the way. You are truly blessed!

So you're saying that a heating pad would help? I don't know what a castor

oil pack is....sorry.

Thanks, Yes we are Blessed :o) Mama is a nickname I picked up on Curezone a few

years ago. We only had 5 children then.

When I feel uncomfortable I use a hot water bottle over the area - either my

liver, gallbladder or sometimes on my back. Occasionally I sit with one behind

me and hold one on the front. I believe it helps to dissolve cholesterol stones.

Castor oil helps to alleviate swelling and so promotes elimination of junk from

the liver/gb. A castor oil 'pack' is straight castor oil put on a cloth and laid

over the liver/gb. Then cover it firmly (so it doesn't move) with plastic wrap

and go to bed.

In the morning take it off and keep the cloth covered during the day, the next

night add more castor oil, you probably won't need a lot, and put it back on.

Replace the plastic wrap every night.

I did this every night for a long time (before I was pg) and my liver reduced

from 7cm below my ribcage to back up under my ribcage. At the same time my liver

enzymes dropped from very high back into the normal range.

I was also taking milk thistle at the time. I hope it helps. Maybe you won't

need that ERCP on Wednesday after all :o)

Blessings

Mama.

Thanks for articulating so well the voice of newbies like myself,

. I'm sure Judy meant only to offer some good advice, and I think

that all should feel free to add their input, but sometimes I feel it's all

very overwhelming. I'm frequently nervous that I'm doing something that

will make things worse! I also want to acknowledge those out there who are

trying to help themselves even within the framework of limited resources or

access. All of these supplements and organic products can get quite

pricey. Also I live in LA where I can get almost anything; but I imagine

many do not have such easy access. So hats off to those who are doing the

best they can!!
