I had an ultrasound done about 6 months ago and it was a piece of cake. When

they called me back the lady doing the ultrasound just asked me to remove my

shirt and that was pretty much it. Not sure if thats the same protocol for

females. Other than that it was very basic. I just wore jeans and a polo shirt

when I went in.

You will be told not to eat the night before...because your stomach

area needs to clear of food for them to see better. They will

request you to wear a gown and instruct you to lie on a reclining

table. They then use a gel (which is a first very cold but warms up

to the body) that allows the frequency of the ultrasound to " bounce "

into you and back through the paddles they will use. This helps the

machine to create an image of what they are seeing.

It usually is not too uncomfortable, unless you are already in

pain...and then anything is uncomfortable...because they will press

with the paddles to try to move things around a bit to see better.

It is very like when a mother goes into check out here developing

baby before it is born. Not the most accurate machine...but a lot

safer, quicker, and cheaper to use then other possible test they

could try.
