I have been a little concerned that changing my diet rather suddenly to avoid fatty foods could actually create more stones! I'm trying to balance that possibility by eating the " good fats " such as avocado. Just an idea. BTW, I don't quite meet the " f profile " (I'm around 15-20lbs overweight & most people would never guess it) but like you am 38 and female! Lucky for me (I guess) my gb problems didn't start until about a year ago. Talk about a wake up call! I've always had the feeling that my [somewhat] bad eating habits would come back to bite me. I try to be grateful that it's this and not cancer. I guess I'm not the only night owl out there ... Guest guest
> I was wondering how many of you here don't fit the fat, female, > fourty profile. I was actually shocked the first time I read that! > I'm 38, female, been having attacks since my early 20's and weight > 115 soaking wet! i actually fit most of 'em. but was still clueless what was happening when i had my first attack (ER visit and all) - most pregnancy books don't mention the increased risk of stones during or after pregnancy, despite how common it seems to be. Fat - unfortunately so, probably a good 30lb above where i should be, and was as much as 60lb over before breastfeeding and recent dietary changes have started to get off some of the extra fluff. Female - check. Fair - blonde/green. yup. Fertile - first attack (january of this year) was 1 month to the day after my son was born. Forty - not for 9 more years. since this is my official de-lurk, i guess i might as well blather on a little bit more about why i'm here and what i'm trying. i've done 3 good flushes so far and a few more mini-flushes (in the midst of attacks). i plan to do my next flush this tuesday night if all goes well. my last was 3 weeks ago and yielded maybe about 1/8 cup of mostly small stones, a few dark but most bright green. previous flushes have yielded more dark stones than this last - not sure what that means, if anything. i've not had an attack in several weeks, though have felt on the edge of one a few times after meals. this is still a nice improvement from a month and a half ago, when i was averaging one attack per week and had discomfort after almost every meal (i'm guessing that was inflammation). i'm taking a bunch of stuff each day, about 1/2 for my liver, 1/4 for milk supply (has anyone else noticed that many liver health promoters are also galactagogues?), and the final 1/4 for general nutrition jic i'm missing anything vital in my daily meals. the big list: lechithin, milk thistle, malic acid, choline & inositol, vitamin c, generic women's multivitamin, calcium/magnesium blend, and blessed thistle. i occasionally take optiflora, but not often because it seems to correlate with my son having a lot of gas (though that could just be a coincidence). i've also taken to making and eating a lot of granola for fiber and good fats (oats, honey, apple juice, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, and wheat berries plus a few other odds and ends), as i realized my previous diet was severely lacking in fiber. i've also rediscovered and old childhood favorite - applesauce, and enjoy it with many meals. i have a copy of " the liver cleansing diet " and practically live on one of the soup recipes in there for lunch each day, but can't go full out on the diet in part due to laziness but in larger part because i'm breastfeeding and need more fat in my diet than it seems many of the meals suggested there would give me. so it's a delicate balancing act right now planning and eating meals, as i'm sure it is for many of us. ::: lori
