I work with animals. I am not sure I would try a cleanse on an elderly dog

(or any dog actually). Its too provactive on their systems.

However, you can do the following (many of which it sounds like you have

already done): buy the absolutely best dog food you can afford to which you add

fresh vegatables -- start with cooked, then slowly add a tablespoon of grated

raw veggies, and a little protein from what you are eating -- ie baked chicken,

meat without gravy, no sauces.

Probiotics are excellent. Primal Defense is a good product.

Beyond that for cleansing I use homeopathy which is gentle and lets the body

clean itself at its pace. Remember with animals (and some people too) less is

more.

Newton's has a good line of pet homeopathics that you can buy on the web at

newtonlabs.net. Pet medicine chest in Iowa has homeopathy and pet herbals as

does animal apawthecary.

Yes animal's livers get gummed up from their poor quality food, pesticides in

the environment and other environmental sources of toxicity.

When you are flushing yourself or another human you have the benefit of

language to let you know if something is not going exactly as planned. Then

appropriate steps can be taken quickly and you can stay ahead of any developing

situation. Without that benefit with your dog, there is a higher possibility of

an

unrecognized complication that can cause the dog and you a great deal of

unecessary stress and hardship.

Another good resource is www.whole-dog-journal.com. They take no advertising

and have each year a terrific round up on high quality pet foods. They also

discuss herbal treatments (less on homeopathy).

Hope that helps,
