The liver makes most of the cholesterol found in your blood. Only some people can modulate that amount through their diet. Maybe that is just how your body needs to be - we are all unique chemical factories (why prescription drugs and other things we ingest, don't affect each of us the same way). I was 21 when my cholesterol was first measured - and it was 280. That was 28 years ago, and it is only now almost at that level. I went off some medicine I was taking, but really, losing weight only helps temporarily and diet does nothing (I was doing low fat until I realized I was insulin-resistant, and have been doing low-carb - feel better, but no difference in cholesterol count). Lowest I ever got was 220, in spite of having two kids, exercising well, keeping the weight within a reasonable range, etc. Also, keep in mind that the doctors are still learning how our bodies work. When I was first tested, they only measured total cholesterol, because that was all they knew. Today, they test, HDL, LDL, VLDL, ratio, etc. My HDL is decent, ratio is 'normal' and now we know to test other things (like c-reactive protein) for heart-attack risk. Bottom line is: do some research and don't take drugs unless you really need to for emergency health or quality of life issues. Just my 2-cents ;-). Guest guest
cholesterol is a big problem. How to deal with it even bigger. My brother was on Zocor for it. It gave him cirrhosis of the liver. Which is worse, the cirrhosis or the cholesterol? RE:high cholesterol at a young age Hi, Mike and others, Don't let anyone give you medicine because you have high cholesterol. Guest guest
>Has anyone used this protocol of eating the berries >and heavy cream? Can someone tell me about the berries and cream thing? I've never heard about this and since I have a hard time with all the olive oil, I'd like to know other ways to flush. Thanks much Jewel
