Wheatgrass, was Juicer's?

WooHoo! Wheatgrass?! You brave souls.

I made the acquaintance of wheatgrass juice once long ago when I, on a lark,

went to the Hippocrates Institute in West Palm Beach for a couple of weeks.

That first day, we were all handed a one-ounce swig of wheatgrass juice to

drink. We were instructed to sip it slowly, and to only do that one ounce -

no more - for the day.

Being in my mid-20s, and in fairly good health at the time, I decided to

drink it like a shot, and then went back and did another one just the same.

It took about ten minutes for those two ounces of wheatgrass juice to start

working. I was sitting there chatting away with some people that were

sitting next to me, then with zero advance warning, it hit me. It wasn't

one of those, " Hmmm, I feel kind of nauseous, I wonder if... " things. It

was one of those " What?! Gads!@!! Then run straight to the restroom " type

of experiences.

It was awful. My stomach contents made an appearance twice before I was

finally able to stagger out of the bathroom. I'm pretty sure that my face

looked as green as the wheatgrass that I had drunk.

The woman who was giving the presentation on the juice, came up to me as I

was leaning against the frame of the bathroom door, wondering if I dared to

go back and sit down again, and said " Tsk, Tsk. I told you not to do that,

didn't I? Didn't I?! " Then she laughed at me. ;>

Wheatgrass juice is a powerful catalyst for cleansing, and is a good thing

to incorporate into a regime, but be gentle with yourself.

You know, for those of you who do not yet have a juicer, you can get the

juice out of the grass simply by chewing it. Chew, then swallow, and keep

doing this until the juice is gone from the grass. If you chew small

batches of wheatgrass throughout the day (instead of trying to do it all at

once), you can get an ounce of juice into you, in a slow fashion, without

your jaw complaining about all the hard work.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT swallow the left-over, fibrous bits of the grass

itself. I was warned about that too, and upon experimentation discovered

that the woman was right about that as well. It gave me the most terrible

stomach ache, and I have a strong stomach. I can only imagine what it might

do to someone with a sensitive one.

Hi Carol,

I was wondering what stage the wheat grass plant is harvested to get the

optimum juice. is it, say....when there are just two leaves on the

plant or more. I presume it is before it gets to more than 6 inches

high. If anyone out there grows their own to juice, I would be

interested in listening.
