I can't recall the person who wrote this note on here. It has been that kind

of day. :-( Anyway, as far as the person who did write about having severe

headaches. I will say this there are migraine, sinus and tension

headaches. Sometimes I know when I drink wine or eat a certain foods like

strong cheeses I get a headache from that. I personally stay away from

Nutrasweet since whenever I have a diet soda made with that I get awful

headaches from that. Stress plays a role in it too. Perfumes if used too

strong give me a headache. If I don't prop my head up properly when I'm

laying down that too plays a role.

Since they are severe I would look into seeing a specialist that specializes

in people of short stature. A specialist that deal with headaches to rule

out its not something else.

Hello Pat,

I responded to your message once, but it hasn't appeared yet and it's

been over an hour so I'm going to respond again!

It is ok to take tylenol. It will not hurt your liver at normal doses.

It is only toxic to the liver in large doses. I believe I've read it's ok

to take up to 2 grams daily. I usually take either 2 regular or 1 extra

strength.

Where is everybody?? It sure has been quiet this week. Did everyone

go on vacation?

the ins. that pays allot of the bills, and to well enough to do

treatment. It just gets old being tired all the time. Not wanting to do

anything I just like to be alone. I do have a husband and grown kids

they never let me be alone much. I went to the doc mon. my white cells

are low, so I will only take 3 pills a day for know on. My count went

down to below a 1000. So that is good I ask for my geno. type 5 weeks

ago just waiting for the lab to call. My eyes, nose and throat stay so

dry. I drank about a gal and half of water a day. I don't mean to sound

Pat... what you can or can't take depends a lot on the amount of damage your

liver has.

Tylenol is processed completely thru the liver, while ibuprofen goes more

thru the kidneys. But either one is fine, in normal doses. Whichever works

for you and is OK with your doctor.

My gastro says take what works for me. Tylenol, ibuprofen, Aleve, Midol,

whatever. Since tylenol does nothing for me, I stick to the NSAIDS.

Everything is toxic to a damaged liver in some way. The rule of thumb I use

is " in all things moderation " . Unless your doctor specifies something else,

take what works for you. I have migraines too, so I take Imitrex, sometimes

Zomig, and Fioricet (sp).

Good luck :)

Where is everybody?? It sure has been quiet this week. Did everyone

go on vacation?

I don't know! It is a little quite lately. It seems just a couple of weeks

ago I got on after several days off, & there was over 100 emails! It took

me several morning sessions to get caught up! Maybe everyone's napping.

Hi Claudine,

Just read your note about the Tylenol use. My mail has been going into the

bulk mail folder so had to go through a bunch. I was wondering if there is

any thing else that might help the aches and pains, as the Tylenol just

doesn't do much. I really appreciated the article on the potential problems

with Ibuprphen. It will make me think twice about taking any, but it seems

to work better than Tylenol.

Take Care,

Pat

Dear Pat,

Have you talked to your doctor about the bad headaches? My doctor

prescribed Vicodin, which is hydrocodone + Tylenol. He felt it was better

for me to take this than ibuprofen. He did say he thought is was ok to take

pretty much anything as long as it was only occasionally, and not an every

day thing. However, the thing that works best for me when I get one of

those headaches is an ice pack. I bought one of those flexible, reusable

ice packs from the pharmacy. I just wrap it in a towel and drape/mash it

into place. You can leave it on up to 20 minutes at a time. 20 on and 20

off. It really works good.

If you want to get your doc to prescribe anything take a copy of that

article with you. The info that ibuprofen is bad for us heppers hasn't

reached most doctors yet. Several years ago I had a root canal done. I had

doctors telling me not to take ibuprofen because I had a history of an

ulcer, and not to take tylenol because of elevated LFT's. My dentist called

a pharmacist to ask what he could prescribe for pain. I was given Talwin NX

that time, but I had a really bad reaction to it and can't take it again. I

have noticed that I often experience lots of side effects from medications,

and will often need a lower dose than most people. I don't know if this is

because of my liver or what.

I wish I knew what to do about headaches. I can't have any aspirin, ibuprofen or

anything related to those groups. I have had a severe migraine for three days

now. I have had four nose bleeds today along with it. I checked my temp because

I felt feverish, but it is only 99.5 which is okay, but I feel like I have the

flu. Nothing is wanting to stay down. It is one of those days you would wish

someone would shoot you to put you out of misery. I better shut up before I make

someone else feel miserable too.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

God Bless and Take Care.

When I was in College we use to get this stuff called

Tiger Balm at Pier One Imports it is a really strong

mentholated product. We used it for headaches, you

put it on your temples and across forehead. I

recently saw it at a Wal-Mart. It does work good we

would use it when pulling allnighters studying because

aspirin and coffee messed up our stomachs. I figure

there is a Wal-Mart close by to everyone. It is also

carried in Oriental stores...good luck, hope this

helps.....Connie
