Guest guest
Hi Jane It seems to be coming more and more common for people to experience headaches when starting L-thyroxine. I think some people are allergic to the fillers - Lactose and Maize, so if you have an allergic reaction to dairy foods - this might be the culprit. Dr Peatfield is both Patron and one of the Medical Advisers of TPA-UK. He is an exceptional doctor who knows more about thyroid disease than a lot of endocrinologists put together. He has extensive experience in using natural products like adrenal glandulars and natural desiccated thyroid hextract and runs metabolic clinics throughout the UK. He gets people better who have remained ill for years under the care of the NHS. Go to our website www.tpa-uk.org.uk and click on his picture to read about him. luv - Sheila headaches hiagain, is it common to get tension like headaches when starting levothyroxine ? and who is this Dr. P you all talk about ? regards jane No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG. Guest guest
Angie, are you allergic to dairy products. This sounds like a reaction to the Lactose and Maize in L-thyroxine which they use as fillers. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I've been messaging re this. I think this could be my problem, although I don't understand why I would only get severe symptoms when taking medication, as there can only be a small amount in the pills compared to what I probably get from my diet, although I do seem to get a build up effect when I take pills. I went to the doctors today and said I thought I might be having a reaction to one of the fillers and he just said well there's not much we can do about that.....great! However, he is sending me to a gastroenterologist now. Do you know if they can test for allergies? Angie > > Angie, are you allergic to dairy products. Guest guest
I hope gastroenterologists do test for allergies as this is something that should be taken into serious consideration when you are getting stomach pains and there is nothing physical to see. You can ask your GP (if it an allergy to Lactose) to get you the pure form of Thyroxine from dales Pharmacy and this does not have any fillers in at all. This form of thyroxine is in a soft gel capsule. How long do you have to wait until you see the gastroenterologist because if it is to be long, I would make an appointment with your GP again, and ask her about this - OR telephone her today, and if she hasn't heard about pure thyroxine, it is her job to find out. She has no right to say there is nothing you can do about it, there are other options. Luv - Sheila Hi Sheila,I've been messaging re this. Guest guest
I had migraine headaches for all of September. I have FM too and been rear ended twice in 4 years so those are likely causes for that. I have not had a headache since then though cause I am eating cilantro.Got all kinds of meds from doctor for them but hate to take them cause my liver is grumpy since a gallstone blocked it 3 years ago. I have found that I don't have headaches as long as I eat some cilantro 2-3 times a week. Not sure why this works but read somewhere that it binds with heavy metals and crosses the brain barrier so hope that is why it works. I just don't want to take all those spendy meds and have the side effects. Wonder if anyone else has tried the cilantro? I am taking 50 mg of iodoral since January. I still don't tolerate ATP cofactors yet but do the other supplements as described like magnesium, 2000 mg of C, selenium and celtic sea salt. Guest guest
Adrienne, Many headaches are a lack of magnesium. My son’s stop occurring when they have plenty of magnesium, and many women who have cyclical headaches have them lessen or go away when getting adequate magnesium. It is because you need plenty of magnesium to relax muscles, and you need plenty of magnesium to make progesterone. You need more progesterone during your cycle, and if you don’t have enough, you get headaches and pms symptoms. Guest guest
Thank you Donna, That is very helpful. I do use a magnesium oil spray and there is mag citrate in my liquid min/vit supplement though I note only 8% RDA. Perhaps I need more. Guest guest
Hi, all:I take just a small amount of iodine (12.5 mg) but my mom (breast cancer survivor) will be starting on 50 mg after having the loading test with Dr. Flechas. He's not her regular doctor, however, she is seeing an ND who is so-so up to speed on iodine. I want to give my mom very specific instructions on what to take when and with the iodine. She had no problems with the iodine loading test in terms of headache, etc. I know that amount would trigger reactions in me, however, so I am still working to building up to 50 mg. If she starts in on the 50 mg Iodoral in the a.m., what else should she take with and when. Can you give some of your experiences? For example, should she take everything along with the Iodoral in the a.m. - C, sea salt, selenium and magnesium, and in what amounts? Thanks very much.april-- April StreeterUpstart PublishingGustavsgatan 11, 41669 GöteborgPrinting e-mails is usually a waste. Guest guest
Not sure if this was answered. She should take 2,000 - 3,000 mgs Vit C, 200-400 mcg Selenium, 200 mg Magnesium and 1/2-3/4 tsp of Celtic salt. I take my salt w/in 1/2 hour of taking the iodine since it binds to the bromide. Guest guest
Not precisely. I've never weaned off of Lex but I have weaned off of Celexa and Effexor XR. I've hit that plateau you're talking about. The answer is to go back to the previous dose for a week at least before lowering again (as your doc had you do). At any rate that worked for me everytime I hit one of those plateaus. Sure hope it helps you as well. Barbara Headaches I have been on Lex @ 15mg for 2 years. Doc now wants me off. Very sensitive to meds so doc started me on 2.5mg taper every 7 days. All was well until 7 days after cut to 7.5mg and then bam - woke up with dizziness, nausea and headache. Headache has now lasted 12 days. Doc has reinstated me to 12.5mg and we'll try again slower next time. Anybody had a similar experience getting off Lex? Encouragement much needed. ------------------------------------
Guest guest
My doctor is going to have me take about a year to slowly stop taking it. I really liked Lexapro but I have been on it for so long that I want to see if I can stop taking it and function without it. My doctor is having me go from 20mg to 15mg for 3 months, then keep going down 5mg every 3 months. I haven't started yet but I have been reading about it and it does say that it is one of the hardest to quit so that is why I am going to stop slowly. \ How is it going for you now? > > I have been on Lex @ 15mg for 2 years. Guest guest
hi billwill  -  after a couple of failed attempts to come lex I am now cutting down by 2.5g every 3 months - every 7 days sounds like a ridiculously short time - I found myself ending up on a higher dose when my original problem came back after trying to come off too soon/too quickly -  I assume my body had become used to the lower dosage.  From: marleycassie <marleycassie@...> Subject: Re: Headaches Lexapro Date: Sunday, 13 December, 2009, 6:30  My doctor is going to have me take about a year to slowly stop taking it. Guest guest
I have had headaches all my life, including after taking lexapro, never assumed it was related to the Lex. Also neck and shoulder pain most likely related to arthrytis...never blamed the Lex. Funny thing was, as long as I was having dystonia, no headaches....some trade off.
