Guest guest
Hi Joyce, Sorry you have had problems. Did they send you starter KT? A scoby by itself is kind of hard to start. I'm in Atlanta and I have several really good scobys and I would send them swimming in lots of really good KT. Hopefully there is someone closer to you than me. Let me know off this forum if you want me to send you scobys and KT. Guest guest
Hi, wendy - sure good to see you posting again! One of the great things about the band is that it is always there for us, when we are mentally and physically ready to work with it again, and ready to accept it's help - and sometimes it's tough love. We're all also here for you, and will help you any way we can. I'd suggest your first step would be to see your doc again for a fluoro and eval to be sure all is well, and then start slowly with fills again. There are lots of new fill places that have started up since you were banded. I don't know where you live, but it's possible that there are fill places closer to you now than mexico. after your eval and fluoro, it might be possible for you to use a closer fill place. then, when you're ready, take a look at the documents in the files which i hope will help. These are the ones especially impt for those starting to get back on track : 1. the Band Guide - all general info re eating, food choices, med sfety, fluid needs, etc 2. vitamin info - new stuff I feel is very impt. 3. exercise document - that nasty word that is stil important ! 4. Water document - why we need extra fluids i'd also like you to consider using the Guided imagery CD's for bandsters - they were invaluable for me, and help us work on emotional eating, head hunger, exercise motivation, improving self- image (a huge area for most of us), much better sleep, and imprinting very positive iamges which motivate and uplift us, and much more. There is more info in the files about these too - or go to www.BandsterME.com Please stay in close touch ehere - we're all here for you. you can do this! Guest guest
my husband reminded me that i was also not eating one to one-and-a-half cups of food at a sitting. probably because i was drinking with meals to make more go down! i hadn't thought about getting a flouro so that is great advice. i will do that. i had been getting fills with a local bariatric surgeon already. it's his support group that i will attend tomorrow night. i am really, really reflecting on the things that were the most difficult for me and there were two things: the band doesn't keep me from eating junk food and, dumb as it may sound, the stress of eating with others or at restaurants due others' concern (nosiness) that my food is no good, why i'm eating so slowly, taking such small bites, etc. I don't want to have to share with people that i have a lap-band, but felt forced to do so in so many situations. how can i better handle this? wendy > > > > hey everyone. i'm not new, though i can't even remember the last > time i posted here. i had > > my band done in Mexico five years ago. anyway, i have had two > children and gained all my > > weight back. i am currently unfilled, but am ready to get back in > the game. i must admit > > that i was breaking all the rules for quite some time (drinking > with meals, soft/liquid > > calories, etc.) so it's not just the child-bearing or unfill that > did it. i got frustrated with the > > band not letting me eat high fiber veggiess and making me eat > slowly, chew well, take small > > bites, etc. BAD ATTITUDE! i am 5'10 " and almost up to 300 lbs > again. i need help, support, > > advice and would especially like to hear from anyone who has had to > start all over. good to > > see Dan and Sandy still here! > > >

Guest guest
Hello Lynda, Â Why wouldn't your doctor give you a fill? what fill are you at?? Â Hang in there.....it takes time and you may really need an adjustment. Try to stay away for high calorie soft or liquid foods..... Â Good luck and please know we are all here for you. Guest guest
hey lynda. i have been in the wrong mindset for so long. i have had to question myself about whether or not i really, really wanted to lose the weight. i still don't know for sure what has been behind my " eating around " the band. i just know that i have two babies and am almost 300 lbs and that is just not okay. i am 40 and have every reason to get in shape and be healthy. i want to enjoy water parks with my kids. i want to play tennis and ride horses. so many things. i have rheumatoid arthritis, which is enough of a problem, i don't need to add anything to it that i can do something about! i wish you luck on your journey. i just know that i'm going to have to really commit to following the rules of eating small portions, small bites, chewing well, eating slowly, not drinking with meals and staying away from soft/liquid calories. those are my big issues. the band is just a tool and that has finally sunk in. i am just grateful to have it. it's up to me to use it. > > Hi . I know it is a tool to help with eating, but I still can't tell when to stop eating untill its too late, then it all comes up, and then I start the cycle over. --- ron jamison <completpac@...> wrote: > Hello Lynda, > Â > Why wouldn't your doctor give you a fill? what fill > are you at?? > Â > Hang in there.....it takes time and you may really > need an adjustment. Guest guest
Hi, lynda - if you're still her posting, i hope you really do care and want to get back on track. I've read thru your posts since you joined last fall, and I see that you've been able to stop all Diabetes meds, are needing far less of your BP meds, and may have no sleep apnea.THis is great even without a lot of weight loss@ But Please be careful of the sleep apnea - new info is out now that indicates it may not be as reeolved as once thought - I'd urge you to contact your doc about a repeat sleep apnea study to know for sure. Untreated sleep apnea is very dangerous, as it causes permanent injury to the heart. Do you really want some ideas and help getting back on track? If so, we'll be happy to help you. but please let us know - some people really don't want help or want to make changes. We;'re here for you, if you really do want to get back on track - Sandy r > > > hey everyone. i'm not new, though i can't even > > remember the last time i posted here. i had > > my band done in Mexico five years ago. anyway, i > > have had two children and gained all my > > weight back. i am currently unfilled, but am ready > > to get back in the game. i must admit > > that i was breaking all the rules for quite some > > time (drinking with meals, soft/liquid > > calories, etc.) so it's not just the child-bearing > > or unfill that did it. i got frustrated with the > > band not letting me eat high fiber veggiess and > > making me eat slowly, chew well, take small > > bites, etc. BAD ATTITUDE! i am 5'10 " and almost up > > to 300 lbs again. i need help, support, > > advice and would especially like to hear from anyone > > who has had to start all over. good to > > see Dan and Sandy still here! > > > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > >
Guest guest
Hi , After four years of being pushed by my sibblings (who all have had WLS), I was banded in April. I travel a lot for work and eat out with clients and colleagues way more than I'd like. So I shared your concerns, my band is none of their business. While I'm pretty new to this, but I've found that I can order an hors d'oeuvre for my entree and eat it slow enough that I finish when everyone else does. Seared tuna, satay skewers and chicken lettuce wraps are favorites, but shrimp cocktail, humus or anything else high protein that isn't fried work great too. I sometimes order a side of veggies too. Sometimes I get asked about it, but just respond that I'm watching my diet. Ironically, a couple other women have noticed my weight loss and are following my lead. They now order the same I do when we go out! So good luck. > > > > > > hey everyone. i'm not new, though i can't even remember the last > > time i posted here. i had > > > my band done in Mexico five years ago. anyway, i have had two > > children and gained all my > > > weight back. i am currently unfilled, but am ready to get back in > > the game. i must admit > > > that i was breaking all the rules for quite some time (drinking > > with meals, soft/liquid > > > calories, etc.) so it's not just the child-bearing or unfill that > > did it. i got frustrated with the > > > band not letting me eat high fiber veggiess and making me eat > > slowly, chew well, take small > > > bites, etc. BAD ATTITUDE! i am 5'10 " and almost up to 300 lbs > > again. i need help, support, > > > advice and would especially like to hear from anyone who has had to > > start all over. good to > > > see Dan and Sandy still here! > > > > > >

I tell people that I have been watching what I eat so it has shrinked my stomach allready and I can;t eat as much as I use too. PLus the average portions in resturants is for 2 people, I will just eat the rest tomorrow or the next day. Some people say good idea I think I will do the same. Guest guest
Hi, sara - welcome! you're doing just fine as is, and surely don't need a fill yet! don't mess with what is working! :-) We always want as little fill as possible to get some good help - never as much as possible. the more fill, the more problemns, and potential for the BIG problems. Please see the files here for the document called " fills - when do i ned a first fill? " There is good info about the nutritiin needs we should aim for, also, in the " Band Guide " . Banding is about much more than just eating less.. we're trying also to regain our health and prevent future health problems. Guest guest
Sorry I missed you call, I was out cutting tree branches....? I had to laugh, Jan follows my lead too, if I order a burger, I usually take half the bun off and only eat a little of the fries.? Haven't lost any weight though, so do need to go in a get a fill. I had put everything on hold as I was within a day of calling the movers to move out.? Norman stopped drinking!? We will see.? I had nightmares the first week he quit, pretty much unable to believe it.? I am still not quite trusting, but he is so much better.? he has really been hitting the jobs and has two phone screens coming up. My job interview with Microsoft was canceled, then just found out today they wanted to know about my 3 year hiatus.? So, I explained that to the recruiter, she will get back to them and then to me and let me know.? The other job is still thinking about things I suspect, since they haven't responded to my email indicating I am still interested.? Otherwise, they would have said, -position filled. The Saudi job is still thinking about Norman as well, the recruiter there said he has seen them take as long as 3 months! Guest guest
You'll LOVE this because when I eat a burger or some kind of sandwich I always take 1/2 the bun off. My 3 year old was playing kitchen at home yesterday and she told me she was going to make me a burger. I told her okay and she made it with cheese, lettuce and tomato................and just 1/2 the bun!!!! Who would have thought a 3 year old paid THAT much attention to what I eat! This only reinforces that I keep good eating habits for her as well as myself. Growing up I was told to clean my plate, etc. For Kylie, I tell her when her tummy has had enough that she can be finished. If she wants to save what is leftover for later that is fine, but I don't make her overeat unnecessarily. @...: halbb@...: Tue, 2 Sep 2008 21:13:06 -0400Subject: Re: Re: starting over Sorry I missed you call, I was out cutting tree branches....? The other job is still thinking about things I suspect, since they haven't responded to my email indicating I am still interested.? Otherwise, they would have said, -position filled. The Saudi job is still thinking about Norman as well, the recruiter there said he has seen them take as long as 3 months! Re: starting overHi ,After four years of being pushed by my sibblings (who all have hadWLS), I was banded in April. I travel a lot for work and eat out withclients and colleagues way more than I'd like. So I shared yourconcerns, my band is none of their business. While I'm pretty new to this, but I've found that I can order an horsd'oeuvre for my entree and eat it slow enough that I finish wheneveryone else does. Seared tuna, satay skewers and chicken lettucewraps are favorites, but shrimp cocktail, humus or anything else highprotein that isn't fried work great too. I sometimes order a side ofveggies too. Sometimes I get asked about it, but just respond that I'mwatching my diet. Ironically, a couple other women have noticed myweight loss and are following my lead. They now order the same I dowhen we go out! Guest guest
Terri you have such a positive attitude What about cycling or walking? judy (cycling addict in DC) From: Terri Ponce <terri.ponce@...> Sent: Thu, October 29, 2009 12:44:46 PMSubject: Starting OverI got the results of my xrays back and I have osteoarthritis in my lumbar area. I'm also still having some trouble with the nerve down my leg (which appears to be unrelated), so I'm on Rx strength Advil for the next 10 days. I was supposed to take it for 10 days a couple of weeks ago, but chickened out and went for regular Advil instead. I felt better at the time, but the pain wasn't completely knocked out. My doctor slapped my wrist and told me to start again. If this round of anti-inflammatories doesn’t work, I'll have to get an mri to find out what's going on with that nerve. This too shall pass. ;-)Anyhoo, I now have to rethink my exercise programs. I can do yoga, I can do pilates (though not the pilates seal - that will be bad for my back), I can do s, light weight lifting and lower impact cardio that doesn't have plyo, jacks, or anything that could stress my lower back. That even includes some of the ab work that Tony Horton does. *sigh* As you can tell, Rodney Yee will be a prominent figure in my workout routines going forward. :-) I may even check into a local yoga instructor, just to make sure I've got the right alignment, but I'm still not sure about that. The doctor says I'm kind of young to have this, but it is what it is. It's only because we were checking into my leg problem that we found this. I just have to watch myself, keep my weight in check (which I do) and try to stay limber. Many people don't have bad pain or symptoms (so far, I don't) but others do. My hope is that this doesn’t give me any problems for a very, very long time. Another good reminder that working my body so hard for the sake of looking more ripped isn't always a good thing. I'm not looking to be an athlete - I just want to stay in shape. So, many of my unopened exercise dvds will never be used (and I may choose to sell them at some point). I'm now figuring out what I CAN do, because inactivity isn't a choice for me - it's not good to begin with and it's certainly not good for my back!If anyone has suggestions on lower impact exercise, let me know! I'd love some suggestions. While I definitely want the yoga and the light weights (I figure up to 10-12 lbs), I want something that'll keep my endurance up, too.A task I'm up to!-Terri------------------------------------- Links<*> To visit your group on the web, go to: /<*> Your email settings: Individual Email | Traditional<*> To change settings online go to: /join ( ID required)<*> To change settings via email: mailto:-digest mailto:-fullfeatured <*>
Guest guest
Terri, I think you listed some great workouts, and I think you're taking a great approach. Stick with the stuff that works, and sell the rest. " Getting ripped " doesn't mean anything if it causes this much pain. There's a lean, fit look that is achievable with a clean, moderate diet, and by doing the exercise that feels the best.  Keeping lean and limber is a great goal and great achievement. Guest guest
Hi Terri, It sounds like you and I are on the same journey to find what works best for us but doesn't aggravate our backs! The workouts you mentioned all sound good and are things I do as well. I also like to walk - either on the treadmill or outside, biking is nice, but I need to be careful not to be leaning forward for too long - we have a recumbent stationary bike at home that I use every so often. I have been able to do step workouts, just not every day. I really like Ellen Barrett's workouts a lot - they are light cardio combined with Pilates/Yoga. I always feel great after I do them. Classical Stretch has also been good for keeping my back muscles more flexible. I also have enjoyed doing body weight type exercises - push-ups, etc. And, I have really enjoyed the Fitness FIX DVD that I have. Lots of good exercises that help build up those "core" muscles to help support the back. Let's keep sharing what we find to work best for us! I don't think I have arthritis in my back - the x-rays I had done at the chiropractor don't show it - but from all the tension in my back I do have bone spurs on L4/L5. My main goals are to keep things from getting too compressed (reduce tension) and to keep developing a lower back arch that is more "normal" (Mine was very flattened which was contributing toward the tension). A lot of forward bending isn't good for me. I'm also on a quest to keep my hip flexors looser and build up my glute activation. Take care!Donna From: Terri Ponce <terri.ponce@...>Subject: Starting Over Date: Thursday, October 29, 2009, 12:44 PM I got the results of my xrays back and I have osteoarthritis in my lumbar area. Guest guest
Thanks for this, Donna. It helped me a lot to know I have a kindred soul, so to speak. ;-) I’ve put some Ellens on my Christmas list, and am looking forward to getting them and doing them. I’ve been doing more research on yoga and such, and am loving what I’m discovering. It so suits me as a person, so I’m hopeful it’ll be one of the things I’m looking for as I work my way through finding new exercise routines. I haven’t really exercised for nearly 5 or 6 weeks now, and it’s made me insane. I’ve grown softer, which I don’t like, but I know I’ll get firmer again, and leaner. And I’m more than happy to share in my experiences with other types of workouts with you. I think we can share some great ideas with each other, and hopefully get some from the others here too. I love it here – I’ve learned so very much! One question, though – who makes the Fitness Fix DVD? -Terri- On 10/30/09 10:46 AM, " Donna M-P " <donna112520@...> wrote: Hi Terri, It sounds like you and I are on the same journey to find what works best for us but doesn't aggravate our backs!
