Carbonated water (also known as club soda, soda water, sparkling water, seltzer,

or fizzy water), which includes Perrier, is water into which carbon dioxide gas

under pressure has been dissolved, a process that causes the water to become

effervescent (bubbly).

The process of dissolving carbon dioxide in water is called carbonation.

Carbonation is created by pumping carbon dioxide into water or other liquid.

Carbon dioxide is a waste product of cellular and food metabolism, so the body

works hard to expel it. So why would anyone want to further add a waste product

to their body? Carbonated beverages also burden the body and it is hard on your

teeth.

As the carbonated water fizzes and bubbles in the stomach, it can cause a

buildup of air, and this can lead to loud belching. This belching can sometimes

become uncontrollable. This buildup of air can also cause abdominal distension,

or bloating. If enough carbonated water is consumed, you can suffer from

painful, chronic bloating.

The carbonation also causes calcium loss in the bones through a three-stage

process:

1. The carbonation irritates the stomach.

2. The stomach " cures " the irritation the only way it knows how. It adds the

only antacid at its disposal, calcium, that it gets from the blood.

3. The blood, now low on calcium, replenishes its supply from the bones. If it

did not do this, muscular and brain function would be severely impaired.

That is why I do not recommend carbonated water of any kind on my program,

including Perrier water.

The best in health, Bee
